Taking the steps up to the porch, you are tempted by the smell of slow cooked meat on the barbecue. Going in, you can feel a very local Salinas vibe as there are often large family parties filling the dining room. It 's a good idea to call ahead for a atable, especially on weekends. The food is simple, hearty clam chowder or a garden salad of fresh locally grown lettuces to start you off. The main course follows with the diner 's choice of a nice selection of meats. The menu is a bit on the pricy side for the humble atmosphere, but portions are large, take home boxes are the rule. You should never go thirsty with the bottomless refills on huge cups of cold beverages, and the complementary rainbow sherbert is a nice palate cleanser after eating one 's fill of smoked saucy ribs. I highly recommend the Roundup.
