Historia - SALERNO

Ate here many times during my time in Salerno! The owners are lovely people and the food was always delicious :

I very rarely write reviews, but our experience in the Historia Bar Gastronomia was so great that I had to find them on Trip Advisor and recommend this place. A friend and I had been walking around Salerno for about an hour in the blistering heat trying to find a rather fancy restaurant which had been recommended to us. Tired and hungry, we decided to give up when we realised we were on an A-road/motorway with no pavement and discovered we were only about halfway to our destination. We turned back and on our way back to the town centre we came across Historia Bar Gastronomia. It looked modern and clean and, most importantly, it was very well air-conditioned. I am English, and my friend is Russian, and between us we speak very, very little Italian, but we still tried, and the waitresses and an older gentleman, who I think was the owner and cook, were very patient with us and recommended I try their spaghetti with special tomato sauce. My friend had a caprese salad. They made our table up, got us some iced tea, and then came the food. First came bread, fresh sliced baguette, then a bowl of parmesan, then a jug of water, then some bruschetta bites, then some pizza-esque slices, and then my friend received her salad and I got my spaghetti. The food was DELICIOUS, so Italian and beautifully simple with really fresh ingredients. The person who cooked the food obviously cares a lot about their dishes, they were made with love! The gentleman would come over to our table now and then and check everything was okay with our meals, and when my friend had finished her mozzarella, he even brought her another ball to the table, and offered me one too. It felt like going to your relatives for a family meal when you're a poor and hungry student, and your relatives put on a feast for you and try to feed you up... a real treat. And here's the best bit: the tapas-style plates of pizza and bruschetta were free (and they were more than enough to fill us up on their own), and in total our bill for two drinks and two mains came to 10 EUROS and 50 CENTS. We couldn't believe it, especially with the quality and service. I had to give them a 50% tip, and now I wish I'd given them more. Not only was the food delicious, but the place was so clean. The bathroom was spotless, and the whole place was light and airy. The other customers were lovely too and helped every now and then when we came to translation difficulties. I thoroughly recommend this cafe!
