Contribuiți la feedbackAt the end of September, we drove to Valleyfield, Quebec and strolled along the canal. It can be challenging to find information about restaurants in Valleyfield, but after reading about Le Local on a few websites, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant/café itself didn't have a website, but we easily found it and were impressed by the well-maintained, bright, and inviting space. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the menu offered a small selection of sandwiches and a salad option for lunch. We tried the tuna salad and locally cured ham and cheddar sandwiches, both of which were delicious. The broccoli salad that came with the sandwiches was fresh and tasty, with a light mayo dressing. For dessert, we enjoyed a variation of tiramisu made with sweet mascarpone cheese and local strawberries. We also had cappuccinos, which were excellent and beautifully presented. The restaurant also offers a variety of gourmet products, including pasta from Italy, olive oil from Italy and France, homemade chutneys, loose tea, and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. We couldn't resist purchasing a beautiful olive dish by artist Stephanie Paquet. We are looking forward to returning for another visit.
Plusieurs petits plats raffinés y sont servis. Déjeuners brunch. Le café est délicieux. Le service laisse à désirer.
At the end of September, we drove out to Valleyfield, Quebec and walked along the canal. It is always difficult to find information about restaurants in Valleyfield. I read about Le local on a couple of websites, but the restaurant/café itself has no website. We found it without difficulty and entered a well-lite, bright, squeaky clean, inviting space that is both a restaurant/café and a gourmet food store. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The menu is small and for lunch was nearly all sandwiches and one salad option. The sandwiches included tuna salad, Asian chicken salad, ham and cheese, chevre and caramelised onions, vegetarian of the day, and a BLT. The salad option was broccoli with cheese and cranberries. We tried the tuna salad and the locally cured ham and cheddar sandwiches. They were both good. The broccoli salad was served as a side with each sandwich and it was excellent. The broccoli was very fresh and tossed with a light mayo-type dressing. We both had a variation of tiramisu for dessert. It was the traditional sweetened mascarpone cheese over a layer of local strawberries. It was very delicious. We both had cappuccinos that were excellent and beautifully served in bowls.Within the restaurant there is a large section of gourmet products including pasta from Italy, olive oils from Italy and France, a large selection of vinegars, homemade chutneys, bulk loose tea, and formaggio parmigiano reggiano. There was also a limited selection of handmade porcelain. We bought a very pretty olive dish by the artist Stephanie Paquet. We look forward to visiting again.
