La Caleche - Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines

We found this place randomly on our way travelling with the car. It was a pleasant surprise, very cozy place and really good food. I'm a vegetarian but I was able to pick two entrées which were really tasty and definitely a substantial meal. Recommended.

For starter there is a buffet you can choose to enjoy. We did not since we had already read that portions were big and we preferred to take a dessert if at all possible. If you are vegan or vegetarian do not go here. There is not even salad or vegetables with French fries available as main dish. One fish dish, trout, which I choose and consisted of a normal portion. Very tasty. My husband and son in law had the Vol-au-vent (puff pastry) which was also a normal one person portion. My daughter in law however had the rognons (kidneys) which was way to big a portion. My husband and hers had to eat some to finish the dish. Quality was in all cases really good. The blueberry pie as dessert was delicious. We had a very good château neuf du pape to go with the meal. Service was not slow at all. The inside spreads a warm farm like atmosphere. Real table cloths, not disposable ones.

I love The service, The food and The staff, they take good Care of you and serve typical french food.

Excellent and refined cuisine. from the appetizers to dessert. beautiful wine selection. local ingredients. this restaurant deserves a star.
