Pizzeria La Mama

My husband and I were visiting Saint-Maixent-l’Ecole for 3 days to visit a friend. We didn’t know where to eat but of all the eateries in Rue Charon we choose Pizzeria La Mama because it was busy for both eat in and take away.The service was quick and although she spoke no English she pulled in a lad from the next table who spoke English to translate. My husband had a four cheese pizza and I had ham and mushroom. Both were served in quick time and where delicious. The staff were charming. Most people were eating pizzas but there was carpaccio, lasagne and salads.

Quite simply my pizza was the best I have ever had! I am fed up with having to chose between thin pizzas in the uk which are either far too thin and or thick ones which are all dough and very little filling. This was a perfect balance between he two and the filling went right to the edge. It was just perfect! My wife and I started with calamari natur which was excellent with lovely salad. My wife then had veal florentine with salad which she said was excellent. What a find this restaurant is we are just sorry we are moving on. It is not posh but it does the food thing perfectly. What more do you want?

Staying overnight in La Chateau De Fontenelle, We wanted somewhere other than the hotel to eat. We fancied Italian and found this to be the nearest one. I had Carpaccio I knew it was beef bit did not understand it was raw. Nevertheless rather than be rude I brought all my English reserve to the table and threw it away. With a stiff upper lip I tried a bit and surprisingly found it to be very good. I just had to keep telling myself it's not raw, it's pastrami to get over the mental culture block. It was nice enough. My husband had steak, ironically, bien cuit, and I washed mine down with a well deserved blond beer and followed my meal up with a trio de fromage. This was also very tasty. Hubby was still hungry so opted for the ravioli Bolognese. All dishes were prepared and cooked well apart from the raw beef.. that was not cooked but still good. Would go there again. All this for 45 euros. Very good value. Friendly staff and owner. Nice people. Made us feel welcome. I would go there again in a heart beat.

Superb pizzeria in this little pedestrian street. Pizzas are excellent. A very good paste, they are generous. I highly recommend.

This restaurant is very good we alions other in the same restaurant not far but the quality remains. the mama's restaurant menu very well excellent price very correct discrete atmosphere. really the steak garlic a delight we return thank you
