Many parking spaces nearby (and all parking spaces in Saint Lo are free! in the General deGaulle Square. We sat outside on the deck, which is slightly above the street, under a awning, shaded by the sun. For an aperitif, if you are not the driver, try the Flûte Normande cidre with Cassis and Calvados. Delicious, but strong. They have bottles of cidre, both pear and apple together with a rosé cider that is 3% alcohol very refreshing. For the beer drinker, Guinness is available and as a place called Le Toucan, after the Guinness old mascot, it should be. The menu is varied, with regional specialties. These are not the usual crepes, with only a little filling, but essential portions with lots of meat or cheese or a combination of the two. We ordered a gas cogne that came with a full confiscated duck, two slices house made foie grass, scaled potatoes and salad. The other was Livarot cheese melted around potatoes, onions and lardon (d smoked bacon pieces and salad. Tasting, filling and almost, but not quite, hard to finish. Nice presentation. The dessert crepes we have chosen were a Tatin caramelized apples with a hint of Calvados and a Irelandise a crepe filled with bitter orange jam and topped with a chocolate sauce. Both delicious. Service is professional and friendly. Try your French because Madam's English is limited. A beautiful place and we would definitely return!
Fast delicious cheap, good friendly setting. Pnravilos and were happy with all ogoszenia. Thank you for the warm hospitality. All right. Try it.
A picturesque small family style Creperie in the pedestrian area of St. Lo. Woodsy and pleasant decoration. It's a man and a woman and they do a great job to take care of their guests. We wanted a quick meal, but no pizza or Mac, and that was just the right choice. Beautiful crisp crepes are perfectly prepared. A nice meal. ...
Whilst sightseeing Saint-Lo we searched hard for an authentic French restaurant for lunch. France, like the rest of the world is gradually falling victim to pizza parlours and kebab takeaways. We found Le Toucan on a corner next to the pedestrian precinct. It claimed to...be a combination of genuine creperie and Irish bar. We were not put off by the juxtaposition of the two concepts and entered the premises. The restaurant is small and simply furnished, the kitchen is actually in the bar. There was one chef and one lady serving, we assumed that they were the owners. Different drinks, including various Irish whiskies were displayed round the bar area. The menu had a good selection of galettes and crepes. We had delicious savoury galettes. These were well prepared and displayed on the plate, a pleasure to eat. We were first in when the restaurant opened and found the service to be fast and friendly. We did notice though that when the restaurant filled up, one or two tables were left waiting for a long time for service. perhaps Le Toucan could benefit from a part time waitress. We thoroughly recommend this establishment for a light lunch.
If you are seeking something different for a change then you will have found it here. You have a wide range of crepes to choose from and will probably find something to your taste. So long as the euro is at 70p you won't complain...that you've been overcharged. A pleasant alternative and a special treat for children.
