Contribuiți la feedbackIt has been over a year since my last visit to Tartine Bread Pies. Since then, they have opened a second location on Davie serving mostly the same items as their flagship eatery located just underneath the Granville Street Bridge. These include sweet and savoury tarts, meat pies, quiches, tourtieres, sandwiches, soups, salads and more. They serve their own line of specialty roasted coffee from JJ Bean, as well as espresso drinks, tea and cold juices.
I loved the coconut pie they had in the one located near the Granville Bridge, so I was pretty excited that this new location was opening up. The cafe is a lot better designed than the other location. Modern, a bit of hipsterish feel, and the cafe is better branded/presented. Unfortunately, the coconut pie is so popular that every time I go, it seemed to be sold out! When Sheepie and I decided to check it out, that was the case.
Good, they are getting there. Pastries are very good (except the apple tart) but who ever open this knows what is doing. Is not French, not Italian not Transylvanian, is super good homemade
**Coconut Cream Pie - $4.25:** Rating: 3.5/5 Though the slice appeared modest in size, it was surprisingly light and airy—I found myself wishing I could have at least two slices to satisfy my cravings. The pie featured a layer of shredded coconut topped with a thick layer of cream. Unfortunately, I found the cream somewhat bland, which was disappointing since it made up most of the filling. The coconut layer, on the other hand, was flavorful and had a delightful aroma. Personally, I would have liked it a bit sweeter, but I know many people prefer less sugar, so this will likely suit them just fine. The crust was what truly impressed me: perfectly baked, not burnt at the edges, easy to slice, and with a hint of salt that enhanced the flavor. **Toll House Chocolate Chip Pie - $4.25:** Rating: 4/5 This pie was packed with chocolate chips and walnuts. I have to say, the crust was perfectly baked, with just a slight browning at the edges. The filling had a sweetness that was much more pronounced than the coconut cream pie, but in my opinion, it was not overly sweet. The chocolate used was from Nestle, which isn’t necessarily the highest quality and tasted just a bit stale. Nevertheless, it was still delicious, and for the price, I have no complaints. **Butter Tart - $3?:** Rating: 4/5 The crust was tender and flaky, while the filling was sticky, gooey, and sweet without being too sugary. It had a lovely caramelized flavor and included raisins at the bottom, which I wasn't particularly fond of—it’s just my preference, as I would have preferred nuts instead. **Bakewell Tart - $3?:** Rating: 4/5 This tart was filled with almond paste and jam, topped with sliced almonds. The crust was noticeably different from the butter tart—it was more like shortbread and had a nice crumbly texture. The almond paste was sweet and fragrant, harmonizing well with the jam, which added a hint of tartness. The sliced almonds contributed a satisfying crunch.
Tartine is a fantastic little spot for sandwiches, coffee, bread, and pies! Everything is freshly made and absolutely delicious! The highlight is that on Fridays, you can get a coffee and a slice of pie for just $4. The banana, peanut butter, and walnut pie is particularly amazing! It’s a perfect way to cap off the week!
