The Counter - S San Diego

The only reason for two stars was due to the service. The cashier was very nice and polite as was the guy handing out the orders. The cooks could care less though and I didn 't appreciate their looks when I returned the burger, twice.I served the country doing things a lot more difficult than cooking burgers but these guys couldn 't serve a customer a well done burger if they were in an inferno.I ordered a burger well done. It came out way too fast to be well done but I 'm color blind so I don 't see the pink unless it 's red/rare but when I bit into the burger, I could tell it wasn 't cooked well/properly. I asked the lady beside me if there was pink and she confirmed. The burger was scorched on the outside so it looked like it was cooked, but...I walked back to the pick up counter and asked for the burger to be redone. He was nice and understanding as he found see it wasn 't done right and ordered a burger extra well which lets the cooks know... hey, cook this well and then a little more .That burger was ready in less than two minutes. Not kidding. In fact it was ready before the order of the lady whose opinion I asked. No way it would be extra well done. I said to the guy at the pick up counter, I 'll just take a bite right here so we can make sure. As it was scorched on the outsideas well.Since I can 't see pink, I showed him the burger and said can you see? ' In a tone of dismay he says yeah and grabs it back. I was actually asking if he could see cause I couldn 't but his reaction told me everything.He asked if I wanted another but I could tell the cook wasn 't too happy about the redo and could see his condescending looks my way...I wasn 't going to deal with that again so I asked for a chicken salad.The guy asked me if I wanted my chicken well done? I replied, it 's chicken are he smiled knowing you got to cook chicken thoroughly. I don 't feel he was being sarcastic as he maintained a very nice demeanor thought the three exchanges.Scorching a burger isn 't cooking it thoroughly. This was literally the worst attempt at getting a burger I 've ever had in 50 years. The undercooked meat gives me severe stomach issues. Those two horrible bites of undercooked meat caused me so much discomfort during my flight, it was painfulThe southwest chicken salad was good but the experience with the burgers were unacceptable.Learn how to cook well done. Use a thermometer if you can 't figure it out..

Surprisingly really good cheese burger. I ordered one that came with lettuce, onion, pickles, tomato and 1000 island dressing. It was a good size burger patty and came on a standard brioche bun. I made it a combo and it came with fries and a drink. (Free refills) The fries were hot and seasoned really well. Not too salty. They had other types of burgers/chicken sandwiches available too. My combo with a drink came out to about $18.00 bucks. Not the best price, but they give you a lot of food. I would definitely eat here again when traveling through terminal 1.

Not like I shouldn't miss a meal but I walked this morning and arrived hungry at Terminal 1, being a Hunter Gatherer I immediately realized the options were sparse. I made the command decision to go with the Counter as their area looked clean and cared for. We decide to split a veggie burrito (no bacon). It was at that point I realized why we got married, she pulled out a Tapatío she packed for me and I was in heaven. She got a big kiss at this point. I then proceeded to enjoy the most amazing healthy (sodium added by the tapatío) veggie burrito with fresh eggs, mushrooms, avocado and spinach. 5 stars for airport food. BTW the kid eating the cheeseburger seemed to highly enjoy the cheese dripping down the sides.

This locale took a bit long with orders but they are making it fresh so I definitely appreciate that. Great Cheeseburger, very filling and simply tasty. The fries were a perfect amount and that can always be hit or miss, for sure a thumbs up here. This was a great choice as thete were not many in this terminal unless you want a packaged sandwich or a bagel from Einsteins. I ate this standing up while charging my phone at the charging station I really didn't mind) They will give you s box n bag upon request and I did get one as I normally never finish my meals, plus I also thought I wouldn't have time to finish. Well, I did finish it and a big thumbs up to me for that. All in all I would return if I was ever back here as it was that good. Having to go through TSA twice on this second leg is a big NO for me so I would avoid flying via SD in the future.

We are delighted by The Counter’s Chipotle Chicken Sandwich. We ate this after a short flight to California (on our way to Hawaii). We might fly back just for the sandwich.? The chipotle sauce was mild and unique and all the other ingredients were top quality. Great for airport food.
