Great little spot. Awesome service. Delicious and so much healthier than all the gelato places in the area.

Perfect little spot for some sushi, poke, and shave ice on the go! A little slice of Hawaii right in Little Italy--the quality of the fish was superb all the ingredients so fresh! Yum!!!

Makai is a shaved ice stand located outside of the Little Italy Modern Lofts. Their hours of operation are limited to the afternoon between Wednesday and Sunday. When I showed up at noon, the owner was running late, and the stall had not opened yet. I called their number, and he said he was on his way. While waiting, I looked at the menu which featured four different combinations. Each one contained all natural fruit syrups topped with fresh fruit and coconut cream. I had never tasted sour sap (soursop) before so I asked for a sample. It had a bit of citrus flavor although it's distantly related to the apple family. My choice was the Hawaiian Sunrise which had pineapple, berry, and passionfruit. The frozen treat was light and refreshing. The shaved ice had such a fluffy texture. The Piazza Della Famiglia was only two blocks down Columbia St so I took my dessert there and sat at a table to finish it off.

Cool place to cool yourself down with some shaved ice. With the hot and humid days we've been having was looking for a new way to cool down. Shaved ice seemed like a good idea and Makai didn't let me down. The owner was super cool. Was really proud of his business and it showed in the quality of his trade. The syrups were made by him. The ice shaved with his own hands in the back, (made that up, not sure how the ice is made). Ordering and chatting with him, reminded me of my time in Hawaii. A welcome memory back to the paradise. There were only a few menu items but you could pretty much mix and match any of the flavors you want. So really there are an unlimited number of combinations you could do. There is any seating so you'll have to pick up and go. Luckily around the corner there is plenty of seating in Little Italy. Help a small business and go check out Makai for a nice refreshing treat.

Delicious Hawaiian shaved ice! I've had plenty on Maui and this is definitely just as delicious. I love their flavors, and that every thing is fresh and homemade. Highly recommend the Hawaiian sunrise
