Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken

It was late and I was far from home at dinner time, some world famous fried chicken sounded great. I placed an order for a 3 pc dark meal on the phone, and I went to pick it up. It was about an hour before closing, and there were no other customers when I got there. The hostess mumbled something as she was turning away, I had to ask her to repeat everything at least twice. It seemed that I was annoying her. I paid for my meal and was SHOCKED when she said $15.69. I thought I misunderstood. Regardless, I paid and left. When I opened the container, my first impression was that the chicken was so dark and so tiny! I expected it to taste burnt, but it didn't, maybe the color was from spices, I'm not sure. However, as a meat chicken raiser, I can assure you that this meat was from very young and small chickens. Smaller than KFC. My 2 sides were mac n cheese and seasoned fries. Both of the sides were coated in a dark spice mix, with a smell that was reminiscent of an old, stuffy Asian grocery (and not in a good way). The fries were ok in texture, but the spice mix was offensively bad. I couldn't eat them. The Mac n cheese was ok when I scraped off the spice layer. It was a tiny bit upscale of Kraft. All in all, I threw most of my overpriced and underdelivered meal in the trash. Go to KFC, at least it's consistently mediocre and much less expensive

Some of the best fried chicken in the area! My husband and I got takeout from here and it was a huge hit. Since it was our first time we did get more than we needed but that was not a bad thing for us! We got 1/2 chicken plate, tenders, baked beans, Mac and cheese, fried pickles, and pecan pie. All of the chicken was absolutely amazing. A little on the spicy side, but nothing too terrible. The sides were just ok, we ordered extra of them and learned our lesson for next time. The fried pickles were just ok, nothing special. Pecan pie was really good!! Overall this chicken is amazing and we have added this place into our rotation list! Would definitely recommend.

Has seriously gone downhill. Prices are far too high for poor quality food. The staff is friendly, but the store is not well maintained. I never go back to establishments where I can smell the bathrooms in the dining area. Won't be back.
