Contribuiți la feedbackAs a family, we have been dining out on Christmas Day for many years with varying levels of success. Being regular customers at this establishment, we were able to secure a booking for our family Christmas lunch and were thrilled with the experience. The Black Horse is a traditional pub where you are greeted by the landlord and a cozy fireplace. We appreciated the lack of modern Christmas music, strict seating times, and mass-produced food. Our meal was relaxed and we were well taken care of without feeling rushed. The food was exceptional, with options like Traditional turkey, lobster risotto, and vegetarian roast. The starters of Gravelax and Soufflé were also fresh and delicious. Despite the restaurant being busy, we were extremely satisfied with the overall experience and would highly recommend it to our friends.
My family of five went to celebrate two birthdays at this restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful, but despite the pub not being very busy, our food took about an hour to arrive. Two out of the five of us enjoyed our meals, but the lasagna was dry and overcooked, and the beef burgers for two of us were undercooked and came without any dressing or condiments. The coleslaw that was advertised was barely a teaspoonful, which I ate in one bite. The chips were tasty, but overall, the experience was disappointing considering the price.
This restaurant was very disappointing given the price. They were not following Covid guidelines, as the staff were not wearing masks and the tables were packed in back to back. A male staff member was also rude and customers were wandering around. There was no ventilation, and the service was abysmal with long wait times between courses. The food was acceptable overall, but there were issues such as raw meat and overdone roast parsnips. The seating was uncomfortable due to the long waits. Overall, it was not a great experience for a family Christmas get together and I will not be returning.
After a long journey and being turned away from pubs/hotels in Battle because they had stopped serving at or had no food left!!! I then found the the Black Horse. From the word go I had a great experience. Lovely cosy decor, attentative...an friendly staff, and fab menu. I had the lasagne with chips and salad. I thorougly recommend this pub
Absolutely cracking experience, we were made to feel welcome as soon as we walked through the door (dog and kids). Locals also made us feel welcome and the helped make our whole evening great. Food was really good and reasonably priced as was the service....We would definitely visit again if in the area.
