I researched that this chain café was located close to the ship. It was also open on this bank holiday. When we walked in there were people queued along the counter. Unlike at home where there is usually only one line, this one had two lines and two registers. It took us a bit to figure out where we should stand but decided to be patient and stay where we were. The man in front of us took a long time to finish his transaction as it seemed he was buying enough loaves for several weeks. We did wait our turn patiently; after all, this allowed us more time to observe the locals. When it was our turn at the counter, the lady behind the counter started to frown and didn’t seem to like having to serve foreigners. We were able to order our drinks and pastries without any problems but this introduction on our first visit to Germany was not as pleasant as we had hoped.
Lila is a good place to stop for a teatime snack. It is near the railway station alongside the river/canal. It has a good choice of cakes and pastries that are very reasonably priced as well as the usual selection of hot and cold drinks. Outdoor seating was not that comfortable though. The chairs seemed to be chained down and it was not that easy to arrange four chairs round a table. Also, the outside seating area was quite smoky.
It's a very cozy coffee shop. I loved the food and the pies. The price it's good, not expensive. I hope to come back again. I loved it!!
