Contribuiți la feedbackWe traveled through the Wachau and held in Durenstein for a taste of wine. We came over Shon's winery and enjoyed amazing hospitality and a warm welcome. Between wine taste we were lucky to hear some stories from the wonderful host and take a look at the wine cellar. This place is highly recommended - make sure you come by the Wachau during the trip!
Amazing wines and extremely knowledgeable hostess! Mr. Branigan is very friendly and hospitable. We spent a nice afternoon with its wines and chatting away in the afternoon. An experience that is highly recommended.
I was actually Sean's place for the first time in summer 2014, which was a while ago. I had a habit of renting a car in Vienna and driving Austria as a tourist. On the way back from Melk that day I stopped my car in the parking lot in Durnstein and went to the village. Quite unexpectedly, I saw a sign that Branigan winery had on it. To my mind Branigan is an Irish name, so I went to this cheerful and tasting some great Riesling, Yellow Muskateller and Gruner Veltliner that Sean is produced, accompanied by Tirolerbergkase, Liptauer and amazingly cured meat. It was a very warm welcome from the hosts and I returned to Austria and moved back to London. In my opinion, I was one of the best heurers.
My wife and I came to Durnstein (after a week in Vienna on a Sunday night. Our host Johann in Sanger Blondl (also excellently divided some recommendations for a light dinner and especially encouraged us to visit the opportunity Heurigan Branigan....We couldn't be happier that we did! Above all, a winemaker, Sean is this special kind of host who more than a hobby (his words). But the more we talked to him, the more clear it became that he has a passion to preserve and share the experience of a traditional heurer. Well done, Sean! The surroundings are beautiful. But in the hills overlooking the Danube, we entered what I can best describe as a wine cave. Beautifully illuminated, with slanted, paved floors and only three well-sized tables in the front and a so malken tasting bar and some more seats in the back. There were also several smaller tables outside the entrance. They serve only cold plates (since it is called simple food, but the meat, cheese and spreads all had a freshness to them, which makes us feel like we are in our new home. But go to the wine! We are lucky enough to find them, the storm (Google it, what I love. My wife and I also tried their three standards and had a hard time to decide which one would NOT buy a bottle (as light packaging would not fit 3 bottles . We ended the departure (hours after arrival, after closing, after a great chat with Sean and Susi with a real riesling (not sweet, and Sean's favorite and a beautiful minerally muscat. Thank you. Sean and Susi to share your vision and love of your community with us. We'll never forget it, and we'll see you sometime!
Imagine being English and feeling lost in a city and dying for that familiar voice, or that conversation with someone who actually knows what you re talking about, then you see the sign of "Branigan" tavern. Well you probably go "Irish? here?" then out of curioity you walk in!Nothing quite prepares anyone for the experience you will always get in this Heurigen. The proprietors are Sean (Englishman who has lived decades in Austria) and his Mrs-Susi (The reason Sean moved to Austria decades go) and they simply are wonderful. They understand Hospitality. Sean serves his own wine and Susi's cold food and home-made desserts are incomparable. They are at the top of the Heurigen game. I met a lot of locals and tourists alike, all of whom were very friendly. I recommend this place for a light snack, some good wine grown in the vineyards behind the house and some good banter.
