There appear to be several outlets under this name in Rome. Anyway this one is in the backstreets near Piazza di Popolo. (Head down Via del Corso the central road of the trident off the Piazza and take first left). I sense the other reviews may relate to other branches. Anyway this proves my schoolboy error that I have whined about elsewhere, about being mugged off when eating on a main square in Rome. Yet here we are a few hundred yards about from the Piazza and you are eating good food at far more reasonable prices. We found ourselves in here after the Italy v Wales game having been enticed in by a member of staff on the pavement. You go downstairs and it 's Doctor Who 's tardis all over again. The plan is cavernous. We walked what felt like miles but had a great table and excellent service. The waiter who said he was related to Dracula was a bonus. Quirky Italian humour. Excellent carbonara and red wine just what the Doctor ordered after a long day of rugby. main drag
We met Federico, owner of Piro restaurant, at the Spanish Steps, who recommended this place for lunch. His promise was real Italian food not tourist menu! He also introduced us to an amazing white wine called Ribilla Gialla to go with the meal (that you can't get in the states. We LOVED the meal and the wine! They saw we were really hot, so they sat us downtstairs in the wine cellar, and that really helped cool us off! The entire meal was delicious as was the wine! Our server was also fun!
This is a little place on a side road off the main al corso near the piazza di popolo end of the Road. We arrived in Rome late and this place was nearest our apartment so we popped in for a quick meal. To start with, even though they were not busy, it took ages to get the attention of the staff. They really were not interested in serving and even to get them to bring salt and pepper to the table seemed like a monumental task. We had pizzas which were totally below average and not cheap either. Well, a few days later , simply because we were too tired to walk too far to find another restaurant we went back as it was a few steps from our apartment. the seating is outside, and as it was warm enough we sat outside near the heaters. This time not only did it take ages to get their attention to get served, this time we actually got severely told off by the waiter for moving the chair from the street side to sit opposite each other and also to avoid being hit by cars driving past it’s a very narrow road with not much space for cars . The way they have laid out their tables and chairs is so ridiculously dangerous and to be told off like we were naughty children was outrageous ! We were then served a very bland wet and soggy pizzas , we have had better pizzas from the frozen section of a supermarket. I have never encountered such ridiculous rules that put customers in danger of being hit by cars because the staff want the tables and chairs aid out a certain way. AVOID THIS PLACE EVEN IF YOU ARE STARVING , DREADFUL EXPERIENCE
We had wine and sangria. We asked if the pizzas were enough to share and they said they were for one. We saw two huge pizza delivered to a near by table, they ere definitely large enough to share. We ordered a mushroom and sausage (no red sauce) it was fabulous and we tried the toast with a fine slice of pork belly fat, not her ladyships favorite but I loved it. We sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance.
