The Great Western Hotel - Rockhampton

Fun place – the only thing to rate about this place is the live bull riding out the back. It was a practice night and was great that announcer gave lots of information and you could ask questions. Basic pub style meals that we had to wait a long time for. Very limited selection of basic wines so don’t think you will be enjoying a nice red with your steak whilst watching the action. The service was very poor on the night we were there and there didn’t seem to be anyone who knew what was going on. Interesting night out in Rocky.

Being the beef capital of Australia you would expect something special and this place didn't disappoint. Great steaks, fair value and if you go on the right night there is a rodeo happening as well.

Wir waren auf der "Durchreise" und haben im Great Western Hotel zu Mittag gegessen. Und können es nur empfehlen. Es war alles wirklich gut vom Empfang über Service, Essen und Preisleistung. Gerne wieder!

We stayed across the road and were woken to an alarm at 5:00am. The alarm has been constantly ringing now for half an hour and so far no one have attended to it. What's the point of having an alarm if no one comes to investigate?

We really enjoyed watching the young people practicing riding the bulls. Then we had a steak dinner that was cooked to perfection. The only flaw in the evening was that the bar didn't have any cider. Then I asked for a glass of red wine, and they said they were sold out. They recommended a vodka-based cooler instead. It tasted like fake-flavoured alcoholic kool-aid.
