Thanh Phong - Richmond

Came here on recommendation, but found the service dismissive, slow and unfriendly. The food at best was average, maybe it was the dishes we ordered but nothing stand out. It is a basic restaurant, nothing flash but pricing on the higher end for what you get and the quality of the food. Rice paper rolls were nice!

After being mesmerized by The Gertrude Street Projection Festival, on our way back home, we ended up going to this eatery for dinner by fluke. Ended up ordering Lemon Chicken, Stir Fried Curry Beef, Stir Fried Squid and Vegetable and Special Fried Rice. We were served complimentary Tea during our wait for the food. The very friendly Manager / Attendant managed to get our order in 5 minutes time and oh Boy, everything was so perfectly cooked and tasted yum. The dishes of the day were the Fried Rice, Stir Fried Squid and Curry Beef. Both the stir fries were cooked to perfection, lightly spiced and were totally flavorful. Fried Rice was sauted in a dash of oil with chicken and Shrimps had very distinctive flavor to it and was a beautiful dish in itself. Lemon Chicken was a very tasty crispy chicken served with lemon sauce that was sweet and sour. The courteous Manager / Attendant, realizing that we were Indians, served three types of chillies to satiate our yearning for spicy food. The place was crowded and noisy on a Saturday night and the table and chairs little uncomfortable for a group of 4 but all was forgotten the moment food was served, thus, 3.5 out of 5. Thang Phong is a pocket friendly eatery that serves good Vietnamese food and we wouldn't mind going there the next time.

Ambiance non existenceno welcome on arrival by staffgrotty thermos is placed on your table with no info on what its for?stafff handed us our menu with barely no words spokenno asking us for a drink through our entire mealthe deep fried wontons entree were disgusting with no filling almost and were just so oily the mains were worse. my wife had scallops and all she mainly got was a plate of onioni had the seafood pancake which was poor with 2 thin slices of pork, 6 tiny canned mini prawns in it ??? what happened to the seafood?my wife received her meal 15 minutes before I got mine.then the older gentleman that was serving decided to sit at a table and dry all the clean chopsticks with a towel. but, he sat there blowing his nose into a hanky and also picked his nose. we left feeling disgusted after thisand thirsty

I enjoyed the food, but they didn't ask if we wanted another drink or if our food was good. They seemed impatient for us to leave, even though it was 9.30 and they dont close til 10

Was ok a while ago - lazy now. Reheated chicken like rubber, giant chunks of onion and capsicum as filler, flavour out of a bottle.
