We ordered their signature Hainanese chicken and Laksa noodle soup. I thought the chicken was okay, but it was cut into very small pieces and the... part was so small. The noodle soup of my husband came with some pieces of fishcut and fishball, a piece of shrimp and a veg. The noodle had no taste at all. We also made a fatal mistake of order take some out before our dishes came. We ordered pineapple fried rice and some fried Vermicelli. The share and the low ingredient in fried rice is rider for $16 and it uses cabbage in the Vermicelli. The whole experience tells me that the owner uses the cheapest ingredients and small portion to earn money. Will never go back to this restaurant.
Ordered and paid for 5 take-out items from this restaurant on Saturday 19th March when unpacking the pull-out bag missing an item. the restaurant was called immediately and the call was forwarded to a voice message box. I left a message about missing take-out items for which I paid and a call number back. the message falls on deaf ears and no response was received by the restaurant. customers are aware of this dishonest restaurant. I would not apply this restaurant anymore.
After reading an article on cbc.ca, I was eager to try White Orchid Restaurant. Having previously enjoyed food at the falcon market in Singapore, I used it as a point of comparison. However, the Hokein Mee noodles at White Orchid did not taste like the ones I had in Singapore. The wait time for my order was also unacceptable. I had called in an order for about four dishes and was initially told it would be ready in 30 minutes. When I arrived, the food was not ready and it ended up taking over two hours to receive my order. It seems that despite the positive buzz created by the article on cbc.ca, White Orchid Restaurant did not meet expectations in terms of service and food quality.
Read more about reviews for this restaurant and decided to try it. Now we go back regularly to taste their dishes. Typical cooking style. The rich spits are average, the Hokkien misua is good. The **** Vermicelli is good. The fish cake and the oyster cakes are good. Of course you should try the Singapore style Hainan Chicken. Also try the bah kut teh. We still have to try their fresh fish and crabs vermicelli, but soon do.
This place is worth the drive up to Richmond Hill just for the Singaporean Chicken with Rice, made as close to the old fashioned way as I have ever had in Toronto. Their fried Congee (porridge) is one of the most unique snack/fried food in...the GTA. Not too oily, served piping hot with peanuts is a whole different level of taste. Also try their fish noodle which is noodle made from fish meat. It tastes awesome fresh, chewy without being too chewy. Top it off with their mashed taro dessert, very creamy without having to resort to using pig fat (they use Chinese red onion heads). This does not even include their in-house menu (not on the take out or regular menu) for the more adventurous including pork hock (advance order needed).
