Family Secrets - Richmond

We’re so glad we discovered this place while in the mood for some soul food. Whenever we visit the Richmond area of Northern Virginia, we typically try to go to the “popular” spots like Mama J’s and Croaker Spot, but the wait is always at least an hour. Not today! I did a quick Google search, saw the restaurant had 4.5 stars, and was tempted by some pictures of fried chicken, so we decided to give it a shot. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30, and there were plenty of open tables. The decor isn’t much to look at, but it was clean and the old-school R&B music created a nice atmosphere.

This place felt like home. The great music really added to the atmosphere! The fried chicken was absolutely perfect, and the mac and cheese and cabbage were just what I needed. I do wish they offered a larger portion of mac and cheese, but I guess I'm just a bit greedy! Overall, it was very satisfying and didn't break the bank. I definitely needed a nap after indulging in all that delicious food. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be coming back!

Uncle Reggie was fantastic! He was working solo but still managed to be incredibly friendly and quick. He made sure we were well taken care of. I would highly recommend his wings and ribs! I came all the way from Portland, Oregon, and I've never tasted chicken that was so well seasoned before.

If you love soul food, this place is amazing. Great amount of food, worth the price, and the food is amazing

Okay , This is my favorite Soul food restaurant. The food is absolutely wonderful ! All of it. No complaints here. Amazing staff, I give the good a 10 . Sincerely, A Customer for life. The Mac and Cheese, the cornbread, the cabbage, those wings, the crab cakes, Lord, That Catfish, I can’t go on. I’m on my way there right NOW ! Lol. No disappointments here
