It seems there are some staffing and management issues at this restaurant. After being seated, it took us over 30 minutes to have our order taken, while others who arrived after us had their orders taken and served. The waitstaff appeared to be overwhelmed, resulting in several mistakes. I had to get up from the table to request silverware, and I was incorrectly served; I ordered a three-piece fish and chips but received only two and was still charged for three. When I asked for the bill, it never arrived. While we were waiting, another table left due to the long wait. Our waitress looked visibly stressed and was rushing between tables, but she was clearly doing her best. The food was decent, but for the prices, I expected something great or at least larger portions. The Alaskan Cod was unremarkable, though the batter was quite good. On a positive note, being located by the river was enjoyable, and the restaurant itself has a nice ambiance.
Had the concierge offer to take our photo for us every time we attempted to do it ourselves. The oysters are sucked to perfection ana fresh. The fish and chips are melt in your mouth yummy with a crispy batter! After the visits we finally got to meet the owner!
I've been here in Summer and Winter and the photos are from the Winter. One of the few places in Reno you can dine with a view of the river and also has outdoor dining option. Outside is the place to sit, even in the Winter on a sunny day. Place during the week in the Winter was deserted as Reno really isn't a Winter destination as most visitors will be staying in Tahoe. Excellent Fish Chips although pricey (around $22-$27). Lots of other things on the menu. You're paying a premium for the location. You may have to exercise some patience with service if you are there when it's busy as like many cities, staffing now can be challenging.
Sitting with our backs to the sun on the outdoor patio and the river flowing 50 feet from our table was peaceful unto itself. Opting for the beer upgrade from 16 to 23 oz is only $2 and worth it! We picked up both the halibut and cod fish and chips to compare and we think we preferred the spicy cod! My sister got the mahi mahi and shrimp tacos and preferred the shrimp tacos with the sweet salsa. I love that the owner catches much of the fresh fish in Alaskan waters to share with his patrons. We’ll be back!
