The food was delicious, and the portions were generous - none of us, young or old, were able to finish our meals. The service was prompt in taking our drink and food orders, although there was a short wait for our meals. However, it was clear that the food was freshly cooked and worth the wait. The staff were friendly and attentive. If we lived closer, we would definitely visit more often.
First can I say that the last 3 reviews bear no resemblance whatsoever to the Jolly Sailor that we have visited three times in the last week. Our first visit was Friday lunchtime. We were spending a week in a rented cottage nearby and had arrived too early to be able to get in so went in search of sustenance. This pub stands alone on the road across the moors but when we pulled in the car park was full which is always a good sign. We were greeted by the friendliest barman we have met in a long time (hiya Paul) and managed to get the table in front of the log fire. Hubby decided on a steak and I chose the scampi and after a short wait because everything is cooked to order we tucked in. Food was beautifully presented and certainly piping hot. The steak was cooked exactly how hubby likes it. Bar started to thin out a bit so we had chance to chat to Paul. When he found out we were going to be in the area all week he recommended the Jolly Sailors Sunday lunch so we booked there and then. Sunday lunch turned out to be probably one of the best dine out Sunday lunches we have had in a long time. We both chose the roast pork which came out ready plated with a Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes. We were then given 2 tureens containing 5 different veg for the 2 of us! Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. £16.95 a head for a standard plate, other sizes available. We did call back on our last day for lunch again and the standards were just as high as on our first visit. Would have no hesitation in recommending the Jolly Sailor to anyone who needs feeding while in the area
Absolutely revolting..I ordered the parmo and it was drenched in oil, the chicken was more like strips and the béchamel sauce looked grey and was mixed with the greasy breadcrumbs. After waiting 40 minutes, it's safe to say we were extremely disappointed.
This restaurant is terrible. The food is extremely dry and the atmosphere is disappointing. I would not recommend it.
We popped in early evening and the pub traditionally decorated and furnished was throbbing. I had hunters chicken, chips and salad. It was first class and cooked exactly as I like it. I do recommend giving this at try. The chips we’re home made and delicious and the nice salad made it healthy food! The draught beer was fresh My partner had chicken burger and chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were courteous, prompt and attentive.
