Interesting meal. Wagyu beef cooked by yourself in hot water. This was pretty weird for a guy from Ohio. The sake was absolutely amazing.
This was delicious. Nice ambience, well lit and modern. You cook at the table. We selected sukiyaki savory broth and a beef and a tofu platter to immerse. Don't miss the raw egg to dip as you eat the piping hot items. And then slurp the broth at the end. Just like mom used to make. This place is the total package. Nice attentive service with attention to detail.
My boy friend and I have been coming here for about 3 years now. The staff is so friendly and so kind, they even started to remember our orders. They greet you so kindly when you walk in and I've even had them open the door for me a few times while exiting just to say thank you and goodbye. The food is AMAZING, I don't eat much and whenever we come here I eat everything!! The broth, to the dipping sauces, to the meat, to the appetizers are all so delicious. While in Rancho Mirage for a conference, it was recommended to us to try the Shabu Shabu Zen that was near our resort. We made reservations and thank goodness we did. The restaurant was very small and intimate. I don't think we could have gotten a seat if we had just shown up. Being that it was very hot in Rancho Mirage, having Shabu was not the best choice. I guess it's like having spicy food in Thailand. However, the restaurant had air conditioning and the temperature in the restaurant was comfortable. We were greeted by the host and seated near the front. The entire restaurant was full except for the bar. It appeared that most of the customers were regulars as the owners acknowledged them as returning guests. Our waitress was helpful in explaining the menu. Granted I had Shabu Shabu before but this place was different. This was definitely a more traditional Shabu restaurant. We started the dinner with fried wonton skin with Wasabi Guacamole. It was delicious. We ordered the Washu beef as a recommendation from the waitress. The entire dinner was like a ceremony. The waitress gave us instructions on mortaring the sesames in the sauce and eating the udon last to soak up the favor from the broth. We had about 7 or so slices of the Washu beef and it was tasty. The vegetables were fresh and balanced out the meat. For dessert, we had the matcha creme brûlée. It was out of this world good! The hospitality of the owners are above and beyond. The service is impeccable. It was definitely a zen like experience.
