Contribuiți la feedbackStumbled across this little gem Of a restaurant in the Mid afternoon. Luckily for us, all they had left was some pork ribs. The first bite sent me straight to heaven, and I still haven't come back yet. The customer service added even more value to the experience. Highly recommend.
The end of the road must be taken quite literally. On an map, El Corral is northeast of Figueres, near the french border. Get a very detailed map or don 't even try finding it. There 's an abandoned bu restored monastery next door plus miles and miles of Pyrenees nothing else. The food is what you expect: basic, nothing complex. The greens we had for starters were fresh, the mixed grill ok (good sausage! , dessert factory stuff, local wine acceptable. Not cheap, but acceptable if you think about distances, supplu problems etc. Friendly service!
Three of us visited this remote establishment which is uniquely located in a lovely valley featuring a newly restored monastery of ancient origin. The location is pre Pyrenees and just below the French border. If you are looking for an authentic rustic experience and like grilled meat and rural fare then this is the place for you. Service was friendly and efficient, wines were basically adequate for the menu but considering this location is in the heart of excellent wine country we did expect a better selection. That said they were very reasonably priced but the red was quite cold which might be because the restaurant itself was very chilly despite the fact that we were seated under a switched on heater mounted on the wall. We all wore our coats throughout the meal. This may be a cultural thing because I frequently find red wine served from the fridge in this region, even in winter. Our friend and I started with Escalivada, a vegetable dish I quite like and hubby opted for pate with toast. The escalivada was nice but my husband's pate was shop bought, not home made which disappointed as we expected a nice rustic home made pate. My husband and our friend both ordered an entrecote while I had black boutifarra sausage. The sausage was really tasty but the entrecotes were full of fat and gristle. This is quite common in this part of Spain, particularly in rustic style restaurants like this one and I understand it is considered quite a delicacy and local people eat the fat and gristle with gusto. The lean part of the meat is very tasty but it's hard work. For that reason we usually ask to see an entrecote before it is served when we are in this part of the world as it is not to our taste but we forgot on this occasion. I do accept that this is a matter of personal taste and not a reflection on the restaurant. It is simple Catalan fare. However, the French fries were laden with oil and very soggy. Overall it was a disappointing experience for us.
