Kappa - Queenstown New Zealand

Decent food but overpriced and tiny portion. We left hungry. Service is quite slow and it took long for the Miso Soup to come.

At the end of my Cental Otago wine tour, I asked my guide for one recommendation for dinner in Queenstown for my last night. Since he had lived in Queenstown for 15 years, I figured he might know a thing or two about the restaurants here. He recommended Kappa and it did not disappoint. I had miso soup (it was a very cold spring day), salmon sashimi (oh my goodness it was amazing), Blue cod tempura (I don't ever order tempura in the States..so glad I did), and beef tataki. Food was amazing but wine was also. This was not a touristy spot though nestled among the touristy spots in Queenstown. If you are looking for sushi or Japanese, I highly recommend.

I don 't usually give terrible ratings, but this place deserves it. We had made reservations but the service was still awful. They forgot to bring out our drinks and needed prompting twice to get our orders. Then they brought out all of our meals at different times, and finally after 4 of the 5 people had their meals, we started eating. We were all done eating and the 5th meal had not yet arrived. The Karagi was overdone with little meat. The fried flounder also was way overcooked. The sashimi plate and blue cod sashimi were very small portions for the cost.

Came here on a recommendation of a local. I ordered the churasi and it was pretty good but nothing special. Fish quality was good and the rice was properly cooked. Service was attentive. To be fair this is the only sushi we had in New Zealand so I have nothing to compare it to.

The sashimi was really fresh and the beef tataki was excellent. The menu was a bit small and I definitely agree that it was no-frills sushi, but I don 't necessarily think that is a bad thing. All and all pretty good.
