We were looking for an authentic non touristy place for dinner- and found a jewel in Bistro du Cap! We based our visit off of the many positive reviews we read and we weren't disappointed! There are no hours posted inside but we arrived at 930 and they happily sat us although we did close down the place! We were wary when we arrived as there was only 2 tables seated and the place next door, as previous reviews mention, was packed. But as directed by previous reviews, 'don't be fooled by the fancy place next door', we took a look at the menu. While we were doing so, two couples on the street stopped us to tell us their meal was absolutely magnificent and to definitely give it a try! They said 20 minutes previously it was packed. They had tasted the ravioli, duck, fresh cod and lamb and all raved about their meals. So we took their advice! The owner sat us and made us drinks, even came out to enjoy one with us! She was absolutely lovely and very helpful in choosing selections. Their motto is 'freshness and flavour' and they do not disappoint! The menu is not extensive but has a variety of dishes to indulge a multitude of palates. We enjoyed the escargot with an abundance of fresh bread before moving on to the freshly made veal ravioli in a delicious mushroom cream sauce. We had made plans elsewhere for dessert but it looked wonderful as well!It was an amazing meal with very friendly service and we wouldn't hesitate to return! The server who also attended to us said they're the only restaurant open in the lower portion that makes crepes, so we may be back for their lunch menu! (Open from 12-2.)See past the glitzy place next door and enjoy authentically homemade meals at this gem of a find!
The menu is short but the quality is excellent. Lovely spot on a pedestrian street with indoor and outdoor seating - we stayed dry in the rain! Escargot, cod over parmesan orzo, bouillabaisse were wonderful!! Excellent meal!
So after reading so many gushy reviews of this place, we decided to make it a must-stop on our short Quebec City trip. They don't have a website that I can see nor hours posted - 5:30 pm opening (AND NOT A MINUTE EARLIER) for our Tuesday evening visit. The menu is very compact - a one-sheeter for all appetizers, main courses - oddly called Entrées on the English side, nono this is not the USA :) - and desserts. We started with gaspacho, the soup of the day - perfectly smooth and seasoned. The bouillabaisse has a very flavourful, slightly anisey taste. The raviolis too rich and tasty. My cod and orso with cheese sauce was perfectly cooked. Dessert was the classic rhubard crumble (chilled) and chocolate mousse, both excellent. Very delicious!
We spent our last evening in Quebec City dining at this restaurant, and it was a wonderful way to end our trip. The restaurant itself is fairly small in size but beautiful decor and very intimate. The owner waited on us and was nothing but lovely. She spoke fluent English and made us feel right at home. I've had a hard time finding wine I enjoyed in Quebec as I prefer Riesling and most places offer dry wine. The owner had a great suggestion of using a white wine and a currant liqueur. It was great! My daughter enjoyed a wonderful rose. For meals, I had the smaller portion of the veal raviolis, which was delicious and the perfect size for me. My daughter had the cod and Parmesan orzo that was the fish of the day, which was fabulous!!All in all, we can't say enough good about our experience at this restaurant and look forward to our next visit.
