My second time here (1st time was with my gf 4 years ago and this time I brought my family) and one of the best meals I had from all over the world! Chef Thomas makes everything fresh and he puts his heart and passion into an excellent culinary experience. It is definitely a must try if you are rated #1 on Trip Advisor for a reason in Puerto Plata and Le Papillion. Remember to book a reservation by e-mail or call at 4 a.m. because stains always fill quickly. I highly recommend getting the Peppercorn Steak and Pina Colada! The fillet mignon and garlic shrimp are just as delicious!
Going to this restaurant is an experience, I was several times and it seems better and better to be, all our entrees and meals were all freshly prepared on site. The smoked tuna and salmon were excellent! Our meals were by far the best meals we had here on this trip! I do not give this restaurant this review easy I am here for 3 months and go and try 2 restaurants a week and by far it was the best so far and I am on my last 3 weeks! Thomas is an excellent cook and also a great guy! It's an experience you won't regret!
We were a walk-in, not recommended for this restaurant as they are normally fully booked, but we were very lucky on a Tuesday night. This was a unique dining experience as the restaurant has been here for a long time, and your host is both table service and chief. So this is an intimate dining experience typically with only two or three tables. Food and drinks were all top-notch quality, taste, and in preparation. The prices are on the higher end for an out of town resort restaurant but worth every peso. This is not the place for a quick cheap meal out but for that special date or occasion Our bill worked out to $2,000RD per head; and you could easily spend more. 5 stars all the way, we will be booking ahead next time.
Le Papillon is an amazing foodie experience, from the first course to the last. Chef Thomas creates dishes that look like works of art, while tasting delicious. We started with his smoked salmon, which was served in a glass dome with smoke inside, and was the best smoked salmon we’ve ever tasted. My husband had filet, cooked perfectly, and I had the tuna steaks in horseradish sauce; both were incredible. We ended the meal with the lightest, most delicious chocolate mousse. Thomas then brought us apricot brandy from Germany, to top it all off! This is a hidden gem in Puerto Plata; do yourself a favor, and call for a reservation immediately!! (The only bad reviews are from inconsiderate idiots who show up without a reservation, and have to be turned away. Don’t be those people!
