This place is known for it's biryani and lunch home style serving. It was crowded when me and my friend got there. Had to wait for about 10 mins and they made sure we were seated two person table. It's usually crowded. Many people also take away huge orders. We ordered fish starter and prawns biryani and it was served within minutes. The fish and prawns were fresh and didn't have any of the fishy smell that you get when order sea food. The biryani was amazing and even though we both aren't really big eaters, we ended up ordering two biryani and were stuffed enough to ditch the car and take a walk at the promenade beach. We both didn't have dinner that night and didn't regret it.
When we planned to got our Pondy I was looking for a good biryani place and this was rated very highly. The biryani dint let us down. The seeraga samba rice was really well cooked and flavourful. Mutton was succulent and well cooked. Mutton biryani at Rs 170 is an absolute VFM.
I was able to sample their awesome mutton biriyani when I had visited Pondicherry. As always I will be exclusively reviewing the biriyani, and not considering factors like price, service or ambience. Hotel Sri Kamatchi's Mutton Biriyani 1. Flavor profie of the Rice - 5/5, Flavor was unexpected to say the least. It looks like your average biriyani, but with the first smell, the first bite, flavor explosion. Like a punch from Muhammed Ali. Not spicy, balanced and carried well through the meal. 2. Texture of rice & Consistency - 5/5, Excellent as well. 3. Side dish - 5/5, the side dishes were a non veg based gravy and a raita. Both were very enjoyable and played with the biriyani. 4. Meat - 5/5, couldn't find a single thing wrong with the meat either. Paired very well with the flavors of the rice and was an absolute delight to the palate. 5. Overall - 5/5 - This is the highest score I've ever given a plate of biriyani, having eaten in very many amazing restaurants, this just adds to the reputation of this restaurant. Note: I was only able to eat at this place once, unlike my other reviews. And this was in between a biriyani "diet". And I was very hungry at that moment. So this review is definitely subject to change
