Off the beaten path by the boat dock, but well worth the visit. A real surprise with just a trailer for cooking and outside tables to sit at. The views of the boat docks and water were great and the fish and chips was well worth the stop on a nice day.
This has one of the best Halibut and fries I have ever had. Bob's on the Rocks has a fish and chips truck that makes amazing halibut. Good price, great halibut. If you caught crab, they will cook all your crab for you in a short period of time. It's also a great place to get a coffee and pick up your bait at 5:00 am. and a fishing license if needed.
Bob’s on the Rocks is located at the Rushbrook Floats area of the Prince Rupert docks; so, it is, needless to say, a bit “out of the way.” Walking to “Bob’s” from Cow Bay, for instance, takes approximately 20 minutes by foot. I guess the flipside to that is you get in some good exercise and build up more of an appetite as you approach the docks area. For those not wanting to do the walk there is transit, which will take you significantly closer to the site (but not all the way.) Or, you can simply drive to the docks, pay the $1 parking fee (the area is all pay parking) and then sit and enjoy a delicious casual dining experience.Bob’s on the Rocks is more of a takeout place than an actual dine-in restaurant – there are a couple of outdoor seating areas, but not much beyond that. On a beautiful day, though, the lack of seating shouldn’t matter much because you do get to take in some pretty nice scenery: the boats moored at the docks on a clear-skied, calm day make for an amazing photo opportunity. Add to that the fact that you can often spot bald eagles and ravens in the area and you have all the makings of a not-to-be-forgotten experience.Without getting too wordy I can say, without a moment of hesitation, that Bob’s on the Rocks produces the best overall fish and chips in Prince Rupert. I’ve ordered both the cod and the halibut and have been impressed on each and every occasion. The fish is fresh; the batter is light and crisp (as opposed to oily and/or greasy like most other places;) the ratio of batter to fish was spot on; and the overall package is just very attractive. Other reviewers on this site are correct: what you get isn’t fancy – it’s a simple and straightforward fish and chips perfectly executed. And when I go for fish and chips that’s exactly what I want. Typically, I prefer cod, but Bob’s does deserve a kudo for the execution of the halibut. Halibut, as some know, is a tricky fish to work with in that the moment you overcook it, it becomes dry and unappealing. The good folks at Bob’s recognize this and they execute their halibut to perfection. Spot on!Bob’s on the Rocks does serve other fare: poutine, onion rings and chicken wings. I’ve tried them all and they’re pretty good, but I keep going back for the fish and chips because this is what they know how to do and they do it exceptionally well. Granted, the prices are a bit high, but keep in mind that you get what you pay for. I personally don’t mind paying a couple of extra dollars for awesome food.If I did have a criticism, I’d have to say I lament the fact that Bob’s on the Rocks is only a seasonal operation (late May to Labour Day.) After they close, then it is back to “hit and miss” fish and chips (to be fair, Dolly’s Fish Market does a good fish and chips, but they’re inconsistent. Sometimes I’ve gone there and had excellent fish and chips of the quality I’ve described here at Bob’s and at other times the batter is soggy and falls away from the fish. The same goes for Smiles – they often put too much batter on the fish). In short, if you want what, in my opinion, are the best overall fish and chips in Prince Rupert at a fair price, come here. It’s well worth the adventure out to the docks!FOOD: 5/5SERVICE: 5/5VALUE: 4.75/5RECOMMENDATION: Check them out while the season is in full swing!
Yum the fish is always good here I always have the Cod and chips, It is not setup for lots of people but you can take the food and check out the water front there and the public docks. All the seating is outside so it can get a little cold so you have to dress for the weather.
