In our never ending quest to eat every gyro in Portland, Safari does not disappoint. Monster portions, as in one gyro was plenty for 2 people, fresh and exotic side sauces, and the green salad was great too, I forget what it was called. All I need to know I learned in grade school:And thats All Four Food Groups in the pyramid!(Were in this excellent meal)
This place is delicious! And the owner is also a great person! I had the chicken gyro my wife had the chicken shawarma plate! They were both so good! You won't regret coming here.
So so so bad. Our fries were basically oil sponges. Not crispy. Obviously fried at way too low a temperature and dumped straight from the frying basket into the to-go container. My wife's gyro was stupidly full of semi-warm and soggy gyro meat. Think wet cat food. The pita is just store bought, not grilled or warmed up. The chicken kebab smelled off and was not fresh made. This place is a scam. Don't give them your money because they certainly don't care about giving you a quality meal. The fact that there are any good reviews at all is wild to me.
The outside of the establishment is very quaint, the interior has a warm feeling with comfortable chairs and hand sanitizer at every table. They have an impressive variety of drinks available in the cooler. I hadn't eaten anything all day and was restricted by a small budget. The attentive and helpful staff was so kind to me and they went above and beyond for my order. I ordered a lamb gyro, the safari fries (Why can't all fries come with feta cheese?! I'm now biased that these fries are my new favorite) and the basmati rice. They noticed that I had a doggo with me and even packed some unseasoned lamb in for him. Between the price, the portion sizes and the quality of the food let alone the epic customer service I can't decide what the best part of this experience was. Please don't walk by this small family establishment, if you are looking for a sit down experience or take out I'd highly recommend Safari Gyro. The only thing that I regret is not trying more dishes from the menu (the food is so beautiful that just seeing a picture it sells it's self). I can't thank the staff enough, and I look forward to coming back and trying more of the delicious dishes available. Please stop by and give them a try!
