The Harbourside Refuge - Porthleven

This restaurant was a complete disappointment. I am only giving them one star because there is no option to give them zero. My partner and I are both highly regarded chefs who own a high-end catering company and cook for the rich and famous all around the world. We ordered a rare rump steak and made it clear multiple times that we wanted it very rare. However, we were served a medium well piece of meat. When we brought this to the attention of the maître d', he argued with us that it was rare, but eventually agreed to change it. The chef then came out and rudely insisted that the steak was rare and outright refused to cook us a new one. This behavior was completely unacceptable. Despite showing him a picture of properly cooked meat, he still wouldn't acknowledge his mistake. We ultimately left the restaurant. The service, food, and atmosphere were all rated a 1.

The food at this restaurant was outstanding. Our extended family attended for a wedding celebration and we were taken care of by James, who catered to our every need with a smile. The food was delicious, everyone enjoyed their 3-course meal and had empty plates each time. We will definitely return. The most delicious meal we had during our stay in cornwall. Such a good range of gluten-free options. LOVE that it is dog friendly as well so my boy didn’t have to be left home alone. I run a B&B near Helston. I am 73 and have travelled the world. Disappointed to hear the views of our guests 2 German couples who have also travelled widely: poor value for money; fish dish with no sides at £28; steak dishes over £30; young staff who were not particularly attentive; several tables free (not surprised); £250 (approx) with beers not wine; unimpressed.
