Based on my observations, everything on the menu is vegan (although I cannot be certain). The issue is that none of the staff members speak English, and even French communication can be challenging. The menu on the wall displays Creole food names without any descriptions. The food items are displayed behind a glass counter, so you can only indicate whether you want them or not until they serve you. Unfortunately, you will not know the prices until you pay. It would be helpful if they provided an English menu or at least a daily specials board with clear descriptions. Most of the dishes are fried and greasy, making it not the healthiest dining option. However, it seems to be the only fully vegan restaurant in Port Louis.
This restaurant in Port Louis is a fantastic choice for vegan food. They offer generous portions at affordable prices, with a focus on Asian cuisine. It's conveniently located near the cathedral, tucked away on a small, narrow street. You can rely on Google Maps to easily find your way there.
This Chinese cafe in Port Louis is known as the only vegan cafe in Mauritius. It's a charming spot, although I had trouble reading the menu and the staff didn't speak English, a customer kindly assisted me with ordering. The options included rice or noodle stir fry with the choice of dumplings with soup or chutney. I opted for the rice dish which was delightful, with fake meat, pineapples, and some tasty crispy components I couldn't identify. Despite being offered some non-vegan candy at the end, I was assured by the helper that the food was vegan. The staff was lovely and even gave me a complimentary dessert to go. While the menu is limited, this cafe is a great addition to the island's dining scene, especially for veggie options. You can easily locate this cafe using Google Maps.
I randomly stumbled to the place after I had reached the top of Le Pouce (the local mountain over the forest path and was thrilled that I had found a place that no one else had. I wasn't right on that front, but it was an invaluable discovery. It was very busy when I arrived, so I had to wait about ten minutes to be served. Once I was, I was relying on the food of another customer as it was the first place I found in Mauritius that nobody speaks a single word English (the menu is, but I wanted exactly what someone else had, what a tailor-made dish was. Food was basic Chinese influenced, but it is all vegan (handy, if communication is a challenge! . It is also stupid cheap under USD4 for what I had. I'd like to go back.
Situated in a small lane off St Denis Rue, the cafe is so inconspicuous that even the cab driver couldn't locate it at first even after calling the cafe. So it's wise to get a cab driver to bring you there. But it was worth the search. Not knowing what to expect, we decided to order something small ie a one person portion of soup with a mixture of veg siew mai (steamed dumplings ,stuffed tofu and veg balls and some tomato ketchup on top. Wow! We were hooked! The soup was flavorful and the ingredients were delicious! We have not eaten such yummy veg food in Singapore yet. The combination was fantastic! The prices were very cheap and value for money. So we decided to order more of siew mai, tofu, veg balls, fried rolls and fried mee as takeaways for our dinner that night back at the hotel. And save on an expensive dinner at the hotel. The fried rolls were crispy and packed with veggies but sinful which applied to all fried foods : Fried mee was packed to the max in a styrofoam box so you can imagine how big the portion is. Lots of wok hei flavor inside, if you enjoy chinese stir frying.
