Contribuiți la feedbackAs others have said that the city has no character, the cement works are not an attractive entrance to the city) we almost gave up hope to even find a restaurant open then, voila! Pleasant interior and good service. We had different sets of 14 to 27 euros. All were very good. Soup de poisson tasted like it really had fish in it. Various fish dishes were good and we enjoyed chocolate fondants for dessert. All in all very pleasant for the price.
We went to Port la Nouvelle, hoping to see a restaurant we had eaten about three years ago. It seemed to be closed and when we were at the point on the pavement and moaning, we have another chance. Le Lamparo is...not the kind of restaurant I would normally go for, someone looking for real wooden chairs, polished flagstones, real fires, interesting art/antiquities and character usually. I think they could do with a little of it, but this is just a personal thing and it seems a 'cream, brown, beige, plastic, modern ' thing in the restaurant trade right now, certainly in small French cities, unless you happen in St Tropez or somewhere similar. The waiters/owners were totally charming and helpful, the service fast, but the possibility for actual cooking go on . . . . Brilliant. I had a nice salad, fresh, well presented and no piece of corn in sight. My son had fish soup. he is a total connoisseur of this plate and it was considered one of the best. My Dorade was delicious and served with a melange of very delicious freshly cooked vegetables, my son's pasta equally well. The choice of sweets was also good, and the whole meal came to less than thirty euros. We're coming back!
We only visited Port La Nouvelle because my husband and I were near Carcassone when my brother and his wife stayed near Perpignan and this seemed a convenient place to meet. Although the resort itself is quite inspiring... on the beach the restaurant was a brilliant find. The service was faultless and the food DELICIOUS! I must admit it was one of the best meals we ever had at home and gone! We all decided on a set menu, but everyone could not dessert, so were the size of the portions! My sister in the law had to start the basque tart that came with a delicious side salad and big enough to be our main course; My husband had the tomatoes and Mozarella salad and my brother had the fish soup. Our nets were sea bass and squid both superb the Squid was so soft and tender! I could not recommend this restaurant if you are in the area, please go and check it out!!
The background music was not only loud but cringeworthy. Stick to classical if you don't want to offend. Service excellent. As usual in this sort of restaurant the dishes go from excellent to bad: so the entrées are always very good, le plat principal OK...and the desserts ... well, better just take a coffee. Honorable exception for the crème catalan.
