Mary's Diner - Port Elgin

The food is delicious and reasonably priced at this hidden gem in the heart of the city. Breakfast and lunch times can get very busy.

Have tried to get take out a few times from this restaurant as it's just around the corner but every time I try to just get some chicken it's always more than a 40 minute wait for take out. I can drive across town and get chicken from independent quicker! So that is what I did both times, it is frustrating , I could order well ahead of time I guess but I've had cold stuff from them and it wasn't anything special. Some people swear by the chicken here....maybe one day I'll get a chance to try fresh cooked stuff from them.

We went later in the evening not far from closing. We had an excellent meal. 3 teenagers and 2 children and me one adult. We all ordered what we like and it was a variety from the menu. The French fries were DELICIOUS. The CHICKEN FINGERS were fantastic with a crunch coating on them. I choose a club sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed that as well. It is a new diner to the area and when cottaging a few years back was not part of Port Elgin. Was glad to try it out and will be back. Loved the décor . The waitress was wonderful and attentive and very kind.

Food took well over an hour with absolutely no warning that the food would be that long until another man told us his food was an hour and a half and then him and his wife got the wrong food. We asked our server and she was extremely rude about it, said it would be right out. Half an hour later our food came out and my food had hair in it. We sat there for 20 minutes waiting for our server to come take our dirty plates and bring us our bill. when I told our server Victoria about the hair in my food she aggressively grabbed it out of my hand and didn't apologize or ask if i wanted anything else or anything. She was not even going to discount the food with the hair in it. She then brought our bills and they were completely wrong . Their was only 4 of us - 2 couples so it was not hard . I am in the service industry so I am the first person to be understanding but this was just awful. With our food wait and the hair in my food it was already bad enough but the service just made it worse .. We will never be returning and I will make sure everyone knows about this experience.

First time in this restaurant. I found the menu to have a reasonable variety and the description was accurate in describing what to expect from my order. The staff were friendly although a tad disorganized. Food was reasonably fast in arriving after placing my order. No significant short comings. I enjoyed the opportunity to eat at a Canadian restaurant. I look forward to trying this place again the next time we travel in this area.
