Le Bistrot Jeanot - Pontenx-les-Forges

We've just been on our third visit to Bistrot Jeanot, with different friends today, and in my opinion the food just keeps getting better and better! All of my choices were from the specials board and usually with a three course lunch I have a...stand-out favourite, but not today...today I have eaten one of the best meals of my life and could not choose one course over another. They were all exceptional! Cannot wait to go there again and my mouth is already watering at the thought. Do not miss the chance to eat there if you are in the area...it's a smart, friendly eaterie and a definite cut above the rest.

Having now been twice to Bistrot Jeanot, once for the daily lunch menu de jour and also with friends for Sunday lunch, I can fully recommend a visit. The restaurant has a lovely ambience with a very friendly welcome. You also have the option to...sit outside in the shaded town square. Menu choices are good, reflecting good French and local cuisine with local produce (inc fish from Arcachon , and prices are reasonable (13.50 for lunch ! . A real treat if you are in the area.

Stepping through the door of the Bistrot Jeanot I had to check have we come to the right place? This doesn't look like the sort of establishment that does a set three course lunch for €13.50 far too classy. By the end of...the meal we've had the sort of experience that would easily cost £25+ per person back in the UK. Friendly, efficient service. A salad starter that was perfectly, lightly dressed, followed by perfectly cooked fish moist, with crisp skin on a bed of vegetable rice and a mouth watering sauce seasoned to perfection. Creme brulee with the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess. Stopping at one bottle of the ludicrously inexpensive, delicious white wine was a challenge, but the espresso brought the meal to a fine finish. Even the toilet was a class act (I'm currently working out how best to use plumbing fittings as hooks/shelving brackets when I get home). LOVE this place.
