Very clumsy and unfriendly staff! never visit this place again! spills our drinks on our handys en cleans the table with only a paper serviette and threw it on the floor! the table remained sticky.
I walked here (even from the nearby parking garage) to the end of the lunch break and had a daily special of trips and cream brulee. there were several locals in a jolly mood on the way out, after which the staff was. happy to take a break and eat a bite. the service was relaxed, but friendly. eating was simple and traditional - a bit heavy, but delicious. cozy atmosphere with patina and whimsical decor inside, pleasant walkway sitting outside. I wouldn't choose it if I planned a meal, but for a quick walk it is authentic and satisfactory.
We visited the city of poitiers as part of a Viking cruise and had time for lunch on our own. we chose this restaurant when it was closest to us when it began to rain. we got the menu, of course. all in French and beyond our knowledge of languages. So we took a gamble and ordered one of the specials. the waitress could not explain what we ordered so we were quite surprised that it was smoked salmon and a roasted ham and cheese sandwich. they were not the best meal we ever had, but after we met the local diners next to us and they learned that we were from California, the waitress and owners could not do enough for us. the men next to us had steaktare and offered something to my wife. this is an authentic French brasserie and we would certainly go back when in poitiers.
We revisited Poitiers on 19 June 2014. We decided to have lunch and sat down at the Brasserie de Marché. A big mistake. Had we spent a little more time looking around us, we might have noticed that other restaurants had plenty of customers and...the Brasserie de Marché had few. The waiter arrived and took our order. There was no eye contact, no welcome greeting and no interest in us as customers. The next minutes were spent discussing the waiter's unfriendly approach. Our drinks were set down and once again the waiter disappeared without any interaction with us. Eventually, our meal arrived. The meal looked uninviting. It was cold, greasy and disgusting. No sign of the waiter. My husband paid the cashier and left. France prides itself on producing and serving high quality food products. So many French restaurants are serving rubbish to visitors. We would like to see the tourist industry setting some benchmarks for quality food in restaurants and, have these regulated by the local authorities, so that tourists have some protection.
