They call them quesadillas con carne ("with meat") but they are known locally as perrones, made famous at another local restaurant, Tacos Yaqui. Marinated carne asada meat grilled over and olive wood fire, then added to a flour tortilla with just-melted cheese, then beans, onions, cilantro and salsa. On the side they serve jalapenos grilled over the same fire that are usually fairly spicy and very tasty in the perrone or on their own. They are delicious and pretty filling, for me, one leaves me wanting more and two leaves me very full - my husband can easily eat two.
I've been coming to "Tacos 2000" for years and I've never been disappointed. Try the "Perronnes"; I'm not even sure if it's listed on their menu, but it's a Rosarito staple: a flour tortilla with fresh pinto beans, cheese, carne, guacamole, chilli, cilantro, and a sprinkle of onions. Every single time it has been very fresh and tasty and the staff greets me with a smile and already knows what I want to order before I even say anything.
I've lived in Rosarito 3 years and this was my worst taco stand experience. One of my three friends couldn't take but two bites of her carne asada taco claiming it tasted spoiled. My other friend said it wasn't very good but ate it anyway and was sick for two days afterwards. I ordered a quesadilla and asked for extra cheese. They brought me 4 quesadillas and expected me to pay for it. I not only won't recommend them, I make a point of warning everyone I know to not eat there.
Tacos 2000 is a decent taco stand for a quick snack or lunch. The service is fast and the quality is better than average. Like most places, parking can be a challenge on this side street.
