Contribuiți la feedbackBeautiful views from the restaurant. Note it is on Fifth avenue . The restaurant interior is a bit rustic, worn looking. Nice array of choices from the menu from traditional tacos, enchiladas to entrees. The food is good but way over priced for what you get. I would not return.
I was sceptic if it wouldn't be too touristic but it was really a nice experience. We began the evening with the visit of the museum.. the guides explained everything in very understandable and comfortable way. Only the clip of Fridas accident was no so interesting. Afterward we went to the second floor to enjoy the experience Frida a 6 course deluxe dinner..congratulation for this superb combination of tecnology, gourmet dishes and great ambiente.
We did not get to Frida's this year as there were so many other great new restaurants to try. Last May, we did dine at Frida's and it was wonderful. The food was diverse, service terrific and prices fair.
Ok so first of all I guess I should start with stating that it was on a Tuesday and the person that came to listen to our feedback was the souschef because the head chef wasn’t there. And the website does not reflect the current menu. The cocktails were great and my girlfriend was really enthusiastic about the molcajete sauce that was served with the tortillia chips. I wasn’t but OK. Then we had the pepper stuffed with cheese and mushrooms to share as a starter. As I told the souschef mayyybe we just didn’t get the idea but ok. It was sour mushrooms with plastic cheese on spinach leaves with a tastelesd pepper on top. We ate half of that and before we could deliberate on that the main course arrived. My girlfriend had a steak (ordered meduim rare but cooked close to well done). I had the what should have been smoked octopus (pulpo). For both main courses the flavors were just plain off. The steak, aside from being overdone, had a completely off taste set of sides. There was no smoke flavor on the octopus but on a sour tappenade kind of mixture, with a burned to a crisp charred orange core in the middle. Not combining well at all. We really lost our apetite. Upon informing the staff they were trying to offer alternatives but what we had up until that point really killed our apetite. The sous chef came to listen and tried to debate about “Mayan flavors” but we’re both sure Mayans liked tasty stuff too, and we’re pretty enthusiastic about fine food, so no. Ended up paying 400 pesos for the drinks and the starter and with an offer for a tasting experience at half price but we’re not willing to go any more (only so much days on a holiday, otherwise maybe). It may be that we just lucked out on a tuesday with a novice cook or whatever. I mainly wanted to post this to recommend to anyone eating here to not allow the artistic setting to influence your judgement. If it tastes bad, don’t eat it, send it back, and don’t take “Mayan” or “artistic” as an excuse to allow these kids running a restaurant to make you doubt yourself. But also; give it an expensive chance if you’re rich... maybe it was just a bad day...
We had a special dinner with my sister and her husband who came to surprise me for my BIG birthday. Hyatt (their hotel made the reservation for 7:30 p.m. We were seated immediately upstairs on the balcony at the best table (corner overlooking the bustling Playa del Carmen strip. The food was great, too. We all ate Mexican of course! Loved it. I would definitely go again. The music was great, too. There was a virtuso violinist playing amazing versions of popular tunes. Only thing I would suggest is that when asked about the title of musical tunes of Latin American origin played in the restaurant, someone from the staff should be able to know the title when asked. I heard the song QUE NADIE SEPA MI SUFRIR in an instrumental version and when I asked for the title (as I happened to forger it in my age....! , I was given the wrong one. Anyway, a great spot, Thank you!
