The Family Soul Spot - Plainfield

I ordered the fried chicken with collard greens and potato salad, and I could hardly wait to dive into it. The portion size was generous for just $12. I wanted to try dessert too, but unfortunately, there were no chocolate options available that day. There’s a lot on the menu to choose from, like oxtail, catfish, fried chicken, turkey, and pork, just to name a few. For sides, they offer cabbage, collard greens, rice, and, of course, mac and cheese. I can't wait to return, hopefully under happier circumstances!

A small family visited the Soul Food Restaurant. The food is tasty, offering consistent flavors, generous portion sizes, and reasonable prices. The dining area is clean, although the many worn handwritten signs on the hot food display glass give it a somewhat cluttered appearance, with "Cash Only" flyers being the most prominent. There is ample parking available in the municipal lot next door. It's highly recommended to call ahead for take-out orders, as waiting times at the counter can be lengthy and frustrating, and you might leave with the lingering scent of fried chicken on your clothes. The selection of soft drinks in the cooler is limited. While the counter staff are friendly, the owner can come off as a bit rude during the typically busy weekend rush, often rolling their eyes and showing irritation when customers ask similar questions about their food preparation.

I had catfish, collard greens, and candied yams, and after driving a fair distance, it was exactly as I remembered—fantastic.

Amazing, friendly, all homemade! Seriously delicious. I could get several meals from my 1 dinner. I just wish Maischekartoffeln were one side, but that's me.

My god the food here is amazing. Been coming for years I wish I could give it 10 stars.
