I made a reservation for a morning brunch through OpenTable, but when I arrived, there was no one at the host stand and the entire restaurant was completely empty. I went to the hotel front desk to ask if anyone would come to seat us, and the concierge rudely informed me that they don't accept reservations for Brick Shop, even though I had the confirmation right in my hand. She told me to seat myself and that someone would be over to assist me. However, after sitting there for 15 minutes, not a single person even glanced my way, nor did anyone come to provide a menu or take my order. Save yourself the hassle and don’t waste your money on this place.
So Disappointing... I made a reservation through the TRYP Events Manager about 1.5 months before this important weekend. It was my daughter's graduation, and since she’s the valedictorian, we had family in town staying at the TRYP hotel. However, I was not informed that the BrickShop was closed. When we arrived, we found no restaurant, so we had to go to Over Eden without a reservation. Unfortunately, our experience there was not great. While the views were beautiful, everything else was rather disappointing. I feel bad for the staff working there. It ended up being an expensive outing that was only enjoyable for the scenery and maybe one drink, although the bartender really needs to brush up on the Old Fashioned recipe.
The outdoor rooftop seating is delightful on pleasant days, offering a unique and unparalleled view of downtown Pittsburgh. It's an excellent spot for brunch, with a great selection of menu items and beautiful presentation.
Modern minimalist style. Medium-sized restaurant and bar. We were a party of two couples. The two men had well-made Manhattan cocktails and wine with dinner, and the ladies stuck with wine. We all had the beet/arugula salad to start, my date loved it; I could have done with a half salad. Three of us had salmon on risotto with asparagus; All were delicious, but the risotto was only lukewarm and this detracted from the meal. One of us had the short ribs; she oved it and we were all jealous looking at that dish. The other couple ordered a beautiful-looking limoncello cake for dessert. Two of us ordered coffee; it was free, but the downside was that it was served in Styrofoam cups, it was lukewarm, and it tasted like gas station coffee. A restaurant that can cost $120 for two (including liquor, wine and tax, but not tip) should serve real coffee. All in all OK, but the food should be warmer and they should have real coffee. One last thing, we were surprised to find live music (a singer/guitarist) but the music was too loud for talking. The music was quite pleasant, just too loud.
Located in the downstairs of the newer Tryp hotel in Lawrenceville, the Brick House is a comfortable venue with interesting and delicious food, and a well stocked and well-tended bar. We showed up early enough so that the place was practically empty, but really enjoyed our dinner. The pickle board was an interesting choice, and the flatbreads were almost crunchy, but with novel ingredients and really tasty.
