However, the food was almost 5 stars. The mutton dishes were delicious and I highly recommend trying them. One thing I've learned about Kolhapuri food is that if a restaurant serves great tambada and Pandhara Rassa, then the rest of their dishes are likely to be just as tasty. The tambada Rassa here was particularly impressive. This is a must-try restaurant for all Mutton lovers.

There are many hotels in and around Nigdi - Chinchwad claiming to offer authentic Kolhapuri cuisine and since my experience with such hotels was terrible, I was hesitant to try this hotel. Kolhapuri cuisine can best be prepared by the person from that area only. This type of food is generally spicy and many hotels offer Kolhapuri dishes with literally a dash of chili powder. Panhal is a fort near Kolhapur, hence the name Panhalgad. (Gad/ garh means fort.)"Hotel Panhalgad" is situated on Thermax Chowk to Akurdi chowk road. The interior of the hotel is very simple and the guy served my chicken plate in less than ten minutes. I hurriedly sipped "Pandhra Rassa" (Kolhapury white curry) and yes, it had authentic taste. I tasted chicken gravy and realised that this is the authentic kolhapuri hotel. Every dish was perfect and I preferred chapatis to bhakris. The size is too big, comparable only to parathas. One thing I realised that the real test lies in the freshness of the spices and the ingredients used, which are real fresh here. The service was also very decent. With no alcohol consumption allowed, this one seems to be a safe place to take the family members, too. I recommend to try it once if any one is interested in enjoying the real "Kolhapuri" delicacies.

One of my food expert friend suggested me this hotel for authentic Kolhapuri Mutton & Gavran Chicken. I went there two times, one time with family to taste mutton and second time with friends to taste Gavran Chicken. Both times the quality was excellent. The spices are just perfect not overdone in any respect. Bhakari is very thin and tasty. Simple, reasonably priced and authentic Kolhapuri Mutton delicacies. Excellent grill an fresh fish varieties. Nice place for small group get together.

If you are seeking authentic Maharashtrian or Kolhapuri cuisine, then this restaurant is a definite yes for you. The Mutton Thali is a must-try dish and the food overall is truly authentic Maharashtrian cuisine. Although the ambience and service may not be outstanding, the food quality is good.
