Sakura Sushi Japanese - Pickering

I used to love this place .... the sushi and sashimi was among the best in the Durham region, and the interior was so relaxing. I haven't been there since the pandemic. When I arrived, I was shocked to find the beautiful dining room closed, standing empty, and service for takeout only. The pandemic is over, so this was really sad. We went elsewhere, as we wanted to eat out. Most of the 5 star reviews are pre-pandemic.

We have ordered sushi from here a number of times, and we have yet to be disappointed! The rolls, hand rolls etc are so big and delicious, you are definitely full after eating here! Don’t be discouraged by the prices, ALL the food here is worth every penny!

Google says dine in. We get there and it 's take out only. But the restaurant is open to serving 3 tables worth of family .What a shame it was a good place to go and eat with a nice dine in atmosphere.

Used to be my favorite sushi place in Pickering and haven't gone back for almost 2 years. Decided to have this for our Anniversary dinner. We ordered Beef Teriyaki bento and kimchi fried rice as it was my favorite order next to the sushi love boat. To my dismay, the quality is not the same as before : I'm so sorry to write this review but I felt my $40 went down the drain. The kimchi fried rice was filled with frozen veggies corn, green bean, peas and carrots) and the rice was a very tiny portion that is not a good type of rice! It was filled with fresh cabbage and kojujang but alas, not a single kimchi at all! The beef used in the bento, was almost like pork. I was expecting the beef strips they had in the past, almost like korean bulgogi but sweeter. Only the miso soup and the japchae were cooked to perfection and salad dressing was just same as before but the rest including the tempura were a waste! Not to mention they gave us both soy sauce for the maki and tempura : sooo disappointed. Seems the chef must have changed or the management.

Sakura Sushi is a hidden gem in Pickering! My friend and I, vendors at a Christmas Market in a Pickering arena, stumbled upon this restaurant on our way home to the Markham/Stouffville area. The staff was welcoming and the sushi and tempura were delicious. The portions were generous and the prices were excellent. A special shoutout to Una and the team for their great service! We will definitely be returning every time we're in the area. - Angela Sol
