We kicked off our meal with student noodles topped with grilled shrimp, which is the ideal noodle dish for the warm Arizona weather. Next, we savored the tasty Cha Kreung Chicken and Lok Lak Beef. Don’t wait to visit this restaurant; go now before it becomes too popular! They have even applied for a fleet license.
We opted for the family-style dining so we could sample a bit of everything. We started with drinks that featured basil seeds and turkey, which I thought had a flavor reminiscent of bubblegum tea—very sweet! The egg rolls were delightful, served with a sweet and slightly spicy sauce that complemented them perfectly. One standout dish was the Baiynchaiv Krepp, a rice flour crepe filled with ground pork, shrimp, onions, and sprouts. It came with an abundant selection of fresh herbs to add if desired. The Chicken Bai Cha, which was roasted chicken, was less sweet than the traditional roasted rice I was accustomed to, but still incredibly tasty. We also tried the Khmai BBQ Platter, which included a generous bowl of rice, two chicken wings, two beef skewers, and grilled beef. Everything was delicious and bursting with flavor! Although nothing blew me away, I still rated my experience a solid 4 out of 5. The food was enjoyable, and I would definitely come back for more!
Mixed Experience. During my last visit, I had an incredible meal, featuring tender beef combined with a variety of exotic flavors and fresh, crispy salads. My husband particularly enjoyed the Cambodian Sausage back then. Unfortunately, it was no longer on the menu this time. I was eager to try the Amok Fish, Cambodia's national dish, but it wasn’t available, so I opted for the Chicken Creation instead. That turned out to be disappointing. The dark meat chicken was somewhat dry and tough to chew. The sauce didn't help; it was saltier than I could handle, a bit too oily, and had an unusual gritty texture. I had previously tried a Vietnamese version of this dish and liked it much more. My husband ordered the Mi Keaw Noodle Soup, which arrived lukewarm and contained homemade pork dumplings that were falling apart. Overall, there were hits and misses, but this is still the only Cambodian restaurant in the city.
A great new place in the center of Phoenix. Sekong by Night is a relatively new Cambodia restaurant in the center of Phoenix. There is a tough competition there are several very good Vietnamese and Thai places in the area and Cambodian cuisine, less known than Thai or Vietnamese, both connected. Happy for Diners, Sekong by Night not disappointed. We ate late yesterday. We ordered spring rolls, beef kewers (sort of a Cambodian version of Satay and chicken noodle soup (Cambodian chicken pho). Every dish was excellent. The spring rolls were filled with chicken, shrimp and mint and served with a light fish sauce with diving sauce. It was like eating in a little sky. The soup, served in a large bowl, was meaty with many noodles, served with bean sprouts and mint on the side and again, excellent. The cows were the best of the pile. Served with a diving sauce, a small part of jasmine rice and a small carrot papaya salad. We finished the whole meal with a common desert of fried bananas in tapioca with coconut milk. The whole meal put us back $24, which I considered an excellent price. The average duck is under $10. Portions are the perfect size for a person. A couple can order a common appetizer and two entrees and get out for about $20. I was very impressed by everything that this little hole in the wall (the most prominent turtle says parking behind. The food is excellent, the price is correct and the service friendly.
This place is fantastic! I loved the Cambodian mixed grill (they were out of beef skewers), I actually appreciate a restaurant running out of things because it’s fresh. We also had the mi Chen egg noodle with shrimp and beef 10/10! The lemongrass beef was amazingly prepared and like no other dishes I’ve tasted. I will be a regular here, even the sweetened coffee is to die for! Thank you!!!
