Uzbekistan - Philadelphia

This restaurant is saved in my phone under "lyubimaya," and for good reason! I travel an hour and a half to dine here. I've been coming since 2011 and have never had a negative experience. Although I'm not Eastern European, I speak Russian, and I truly appreciate that the staff speaks to me in Russian instead of English when I initiate the conversation. My favorite dish is the Ukrainian borscht with tandoori bread, and I can't leave without grabbing some chebureki to take home. Every time I visit, I find myself eagerly anticipating my next trip back.

If you’re in search of authentic Uzbek cuisine, I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. You won’t be disappointed! The food is exceptional, the interior is lovely, and the service is outstanding. They offer traditional dishes like Samsa and Manti that are absolutely delicious. The shish kebab options were fantastic, especially the veal liver and salmon shish! For dessert, we tried the Baklava, though it didn’t quite measure up to the Turkish version. Nevertheless, it was our first visit, and we definitely plan to return!

Some standout dishes included the incredible pickled green tomatoes on the Pickled Vegetables platter, which were truly out of this world. The Vareniki (small potato dumplings similar to pierogies), lamb kebab, Uzbekistan pilaf, and honey cake were also unforgettable. Although it was a bit of a journey from Center City, there was ample parking available in the lot behind the restaurant, and the delicious food was well worth the trip. Just a note: while the open windows allowed for a nice breeze, they also let in quite a bit of traffic noise from Bustleton Avenue.

Our experience here was most excellent. Neither of us had ever enjoyed this particular ethnic cuisine before and found the opportunity to do so irresistible? so glad we did! Between the two of us we ordered five entrees and appetizers, going all out. Everything we had was outstanding as were the hostess and server who were very nice and helpful with our decision making. Prices here are surprisingly low for the quality received. Afterwards we chatted outside with the owner at his woodworking station and found him to be quite a good and humble gentleman. Highly recommended.
