Beck's Cajun Cafe - Philadelphia

This restaurant is a fantastic dining spot. The food is extremely fresh and made to order, offering authentic Cajun cuisine right in Philadelphia. Eating at the counter is enjoyable, as you can witness the dedication and effort that goes into preparing the meals and see the fresh ingredients being used. They use only the finest chicken breast with white meat, and their homemade macaroni is a standout. Plus, they slice their own meats, which adds to the quality. The sweet tea was delightful, and both the catfish and shrimp were excellent. My only wish is that they offered butter or honey for the cornbread.

The food was fantastic! We enjoyed the fried mac and cheese balls, red beans and rice, and the blackened chicken Alfredo. Everything was excellent!

My jambalaya took quite a while to arrive, and when it finally did, it was very strong in flavor. Although I enjoy curries and soul food, this was a bit too intense and somewhat salty. It included chunks of meat, but the shrimp were quite small. Despite that, I managed to finish my meal. Afterward, the waitress left the check, and with a change of shift, I looked at my receipt and discovered I was charged for Gumbalaya at $12 and some change, while the jambalaya is listed for $8.95. I hadn't asked for any extras. When I brought this to the attention of the young man who was now the cashier and waiter, he insisted it was because I had requested gumbo. I reiterated that I had not made that request and that the waitress hadn't mentioned adding gumbo. Unfortunately, he told me there was nothing he could do since she had already left. In the end, I had no choice but to pay the extra charge. I won't be returning.

On a summer trip to Philly from NYC, on a trip filled with amazing food all around, Beck's was my favorite meal! We went to Beck's for lunch during the second day of our trip, and I'm still dreaming about that place. Great food, quick service, and allthe ambiance that the Reading Terminal Market has to offer. Beck's is delicious. With SO many choices in Reading TerminalMarket, do not pass up Beck's Cajun Cafe!

How can one give it less than 5 stars? Went there for breakfast on an earlier Sunday and it was already busy. The devil's omelette was awesome and coffee was great! The waiter was quick, knowledgeable and efficient. I wish I could go there everyday.
