Chilli Panda - Perth

We visited for dinner on a Monday. The service was efficient and the waiter suggested some dishes for us to try. This was our first time trying Hunanese dishes. There is plenty of fresh chillies used in contrast to Sichuan cooking which normally used dried chillies in their cooking. The dishes were tasty only if you can handle the heat! We enjoyed the meal. The restaurant is not easy to see fr Newcastle St as it's part of the Citylights serviced hotel. The restaurant is airy and spacious.

If you want to experience Chinese food that is as far from suburban Cantonese as you can get, try Chilli Panda for its Hunanese cuisine.Bear in mind that the chilli ratings on the menu may be somewhat understated for non-regular chilli eaters, but the food will grow on you.My personal favourite is the Spicy Cumin Beef, which can be balanced nicely with the cold Cucumber, Garlic and Coriander. There are also plenty of vegetable dishes, if that takes your fancy.

Chilli.. that's exactly what to expect and you should expect a lot of it. The meal was lovely, however if you can't tolerate chilli, this probably isn't the cuisine for you.

Thought it was a cute name for a neat modern restaurant. Ordered 3 dishes and they had 1 chilli on it but didn't think much of it. When the first cold dish of beef came it was covered in chilli seeds and oil. I thought oh oh this will be trouble and it was! Fml. I'm not a chilli eater so it was the beginning of a uncomfortable dinner experience.Next the pork came and it too was covered in chilli flakes and seeds. Ate a few pieces and my mouth went numb. And the 3rd dish was yet to come. The chicken with bone came. It too was in a soup of chilli. Damn. Was going to tap out but kept eating as I was hungry. Hiit classes make u hungry. 10 mins later there were sweat drops dripping from the top of my head. If there was no chilli the dishes would have tasted amazing. But heck you go to Green n **** for a good coffee right? How was I supposed to know u get chilli with every dish at Chilli Panda. Still good but won't hv again. If you like chilli do try this. If not you have been warned.

The reception wasn't particularly welcoming and for some reason (probably our fault) we found it hard to find - however - I loved the food. It is full of flavoursome chilli and I love chilli. The food is cooked beautifully and every dish we had was exciting and memorable. I look forward to going back.
