Rodgers Tavern - Perryville

Just sat outside... the Gazebo area needed a lil cleaning from sticks and leaves other then that it's a nice quiet place to sit and enjoy outside

I didn't go inside however I thought the building itself would make a cool picture

While walking in the area, noticed tavern was open for tours so we stopped in to take a peak. Friendly staff. Nice bit of local history to take in if close by. Would not put it high on the list or make a special trip but definitely if you are walking in the area stop in. There is an easy walking paved trail that can be taken through Perry Point to the Perryville Community Park or in the other direction from the tavern it runs parallel with the river for a short distance of which you will have a good view of once passing by the townhouses. Boxcar ice cream place is very close too.

Came here twice now. Both times locked up during open hiurs.

An interesting historic property in an uninteresting town. The building was a tavern during the first part of its life, owned by the Thomas family and run by the Rodgers. Whether John Rodgers is really the founder of the U.S. Navy is debatable, and the staff will tell you that he definitely was not born here as the outside signage declares. Various Revolutionary War figures passed through these doors, such as Washington and Lafayette, so it's worth walking across the floorboards, even though much of nothing in the property is original.
