We came to rabacal at 13:30 a.m., so we could stop at midday. rabacal is a sleepy, but when we went into the canteen, it was full. We had to wait for a table so that we could sit (on Tuesday, end of October) there were four main courses except that the kalbsal was already gone. we have the black. the personal speaks almost no English, that was a safe choice. there were also frying pork plates that contain some dinge like schnapps (the guy next to us had that,) or makrele. this place is only open for lunch until maybe 15:00. it is located on the lower side of the city, on the camino direction north, just before they leave the city.
Every time I have the chance, I have lunch in this wonderful local restaurant in rabaçal, o cantinho da clotilde. the city is located south of coimbra in a beautiful part of portugal, near the Roman ruins of conimbriga, this is worth the ride...through the olive groves and small farms that famous this rocky landscape for its cheese and olive oil. eating is typical Portuguese and always wonderful. often it is full of natives that is a good sign for the price. the atmosphere is secret and joyful. this time we all ate feijoada, best described as a combination of beans, sausages and other things. it was delicious. we had a glass of local red wine, a local cheese and dessert a local. a perfect lunch. When I was there last time, I had chanfana, which was just great. this restaurant never disappoints, but they must be ready to eat the local traditional foods. don't tell anyone except your seven best friends!
