Josh's Kitchen is inside a tavern. Great idea.. service is phenomenal. Food is authentic! Great menu, something for everyone. You won't be doing.
Josh's kitchen is inside Parkside Tavern. They're the kitchen for the bar and you pay separate for food at Josh's kitchen; order n pay drinks at Parkside Tavern. There was a live band when we came on Sunday evening. They were ok. We were stopped at the door and was told there was a cover charge $10- probably for the band. We said we're here to order at Josh's kitchen then it was ok to come in. I think the bar should pay the band for playing and not expect customers to pay cover charge. This wasn't a concert venue! Neither were they a famous band. Will I return to Josh's kitchen? Only for takeout or better yet, Uber eats or grubhub. 4 stars for the food- lost a star due to location. Hope they find another establishment to do business with or open their own place.
What an amazing meal that was!! Six of us made a party and arrived not expecting too much. Josh's Kitchen operated from the inside of a tavern, and a band in Grateful Dead T-shirts was getting ready. So, we asked for Josh's for recommendations and ordered up a bunch of appetizers and a large main platter. The guacamole and chips came first, and on the first bite, all of us went WOW. Even though I am not a big fan of guacamole, I couldn't help but keep dipping in. It was obviously freshly made just that minute, and had the right level of spice, sour, salt, sweet, and spice... and chunks of avocado. Then the Pulled Pork Tostones came out, and we all went WOW!! And again for the chicken empanadas. And again, and again. The Chef Josh personally served us, which made things a little slower than usual, as he essentially was a one man operation at this point. By the time the main platter came out, we were stuffed, but gamely, we soldiered on. The NY Steak was rare as we requested, spectacularly flavored with chimchurri. Perfectly seared large shrimp and another of his perfect sausages. All the while rocking out to the music at the tavern. Perfect!!
Full disclaimer: this was a Doordash delivery. This may be better in house.I am under the impression this is a ghost kitchen. I 've eaten from some ghost kitchens that serve some tasty food. This one has some work to do.I tried the Salchipapa supreme, which is a street food of cheese, franks/hotdogs, and fries. It was fine. The fries seemed like frozen fries. But this dish does have potential. It may have been affected by delivery.I tried the empanadas. The chicken seemed stringy and unseasoned, but the crust was done well, and was hot and crispy. So again, maybe there is potential. The main dish I tried was the carne asada. While I was not expecting a prime cut of beef, this was chewy and full of sinew. And the yucca fries were also unseasoned and soggy. This ghost kitchen also serves arepas, chorizo dishes, tostones, beef stew, and other Columbian inspired dishes.I almost always try to spin a review positively, and always make allowances for delivery. This food was more likely to be three stars in my book, but I upped it to four since it was DoorDash.
