Jalapeños Mexican Grill/passaic

I went in to get seated and the waitress took my and told me it will be a 30min wait. I come back in 30min and they said they cant anymore because 1. Some guy said we’re closed, mind you it’s 8:55pm up and 2. The waitress told me the kitchen is busy and I wouldn’t be able to eat until an hour after. I’m not coming back to this place again. Just wasted my time.

Honestly, my expectation to this place was higher than it should have been. I saw A tiktok about this place and came for my sisters birthday. We have kids so we wanted to eat there for lunch.Was not aware you get a select “brunch” menu with practically just tacos and quesadillasWe were hoping for a plate with rice/beans and steak. its not on the brunch menu.Very small place. The day we went had 4 large groups of tables.It was good, don’t get me wrong just wish we had known that before hand.

I don't even know where to start when it comes to this review. The bf found this place on Instagram (IG), you know, the usual video of everyone having such a good time taking photos of their food that no one takes a bite . First, the name of the restaurant doesn't match the restaurant name on IG, so when we drive up looking for Jalapeños Mexican Grill it's no where to be found. After driving around for a place to just park and start doing our googles (street traffic and parking was so bad we winded up behind Gods back just so we didn't impede the flow of traffic) I found a number on the Ig page that I could call. When I call someone picks up stating the original name of the place . When I ask if this is Jalapeños Mexican grill he says yes to that name too.... What in the foolery is happening here. So we go back to where we originally pulled up (remember we were behind Gods back out yonder) and bae let's me out to go fight for parking. I'm standing by the door for 7 minutes, next to a dj blasting music for a crowd of about 18 people before anyone even comes by to seat me. We finally get a table and I notice it's just two people waiting, bartending, busing....all that jazz that comes with a well run business without the well run part. Now my heart goes out to these two seeing it's a Saturday bottomless brunch weekend, but 2 people though. 25 minutes into being seated I had to finally stop the woman and ask her for a menu and some water. Let me wrap up this already too long story. We winded up being there for 3 hours just for 2 drinks, 3 tacos and a baby burrito that was good not great. We didn't get served until over 1.5 hours in, that's including the 1 drink we each ordered. I tried to enjoy myself even though I was steaming inside at the poor service, but when bf ordered 1 more drink after we ate our little meal, enough was enough. I was not going to wait another possible 1.5 hours just for a subpar drink. Long story short (too late) the food was not even worth the abuse I endured, bf is no longer allowed to make recommendations, an I'm no longer listening to Ig without a thorough Yelp investigation of the establishment first. The two stars are for the two staff members who tried.

This place is a jewel hidden in downtown Passaic!! the food is fabulous!! the drinks are amazing and the atmosphere is friendly!! I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who is into Mexican food! I'm not a big fan of Mexican food but this place definitely changed my mind!! kudos to you!! ???????
