My family and I arrived at the interpretive Centre after 11 and I wondered what my lunch options would be in the area when the Trip Advisor showed me some great reviews of the cafeteria right on site! I figured I was doomed to a dish of grapes and a can of orange crush when we arrived, but a chat with the server about my wheat allergy produced a yummy bowl of bison chili and a gluten free bun that I had to compare to my daughter's hamburger bun to be sure it was wheat-free! The rest of the fam enjoyed bison stew, chicken fingers and a beef burger.
We tried the famous buffalo stew and chilli. While not discernable different from beef, the meals were tasty and reasonably priced. The only criticism is that the meals aren't exactly huge. Staff were friendly and got meals out in a very timely manner.
We had toured some of the exhibit before deciding it was time for lunch for which we were very excited about as we were visiting from Ireland...the exhibit was just AMAZING and then we walked into the cafeteria and we may as well have been in a substandard cafe. The ambiance did not match what the exhibit portrays. The food was well below what we had expected and was also over priced for portion size served in styro foam bowls. Served by a very rude lady who left the whole exhibit down by her manner and attitude. The exhibit itself is amazing and the exhibit staff are all very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.
Limited choices, but the focus is on the use of buffalo. Veggie option available. Had buffalo burger - good sized serving and juicy meat. Fries okay. Husband had buffalo chili which was spiced, but not too hot. Poutine was cheese curds and gravy variety - more than enough to eat. Bannock was dry, but great flavor.
