Pizza Athena - Palmer

We stopped at this restaurant on our way back to Anchorage from Hatcher's Pass, and it was fantastic! The service was quick and friendly, and both the pizza and cheesy bread we ordered were delicious. Whether you're a local or just traveling through, this is definitely a great spot to enjoy a meal.

I had a disappointing experience with the Margerita pizza here, which was probably the worst I've ever had. I recommend you find another restaurant instead. I placed my order for the pizzas two hours in advance, yet they still arrived an hour late.

The customer service was subpar. While the food was good, the elderly man who took my order over the phone kept mumbling to himself, which was quite distracting. It would have been helpful for me to know that beforehand as I navigated through the list of orders. When he mentioned that it would take two tickets for my order, I assured him that it wasn't a problem. His response was, "It's really not, but okay." For a small business that primarily delivers in the Palmer area during lunchtime, this seemed like a reasonable request, and there weren't many special requests or changes involved. I believe the employees who interact with customers could benefit from better training on how to communicate effectively.

I can't believe they charged me $55 for a large pizza with five toppings. I honestly thought it was a joke, but it wasn't. I don't know if they're taking advantage of tourists, but that pricing is ridiculous. I can't recommend them.

Our pizza was undercooked, with a nearly white bottom. Additionally, the outer 3-4 inches of the pizza had no toppings, making it feel like we received medium toppings on a large pie instead. The sauce left a bitter aftertaste, almost acidic, which typically could be balanced with some heat or a hint of sugar. However, if overdone, that can lead to the overly sweet taste you find at chain places. On a brighter note, one of the sandwiches ordered by a guest at our table seemed to be satisfactory; they didn’t have any complaints. Overall, taking into account the two-hour wait, the high prices, and the subpar quality, I wouldn’t recommend ordering from here again. What a disappointment!
